A little bit of work, a whole lotta play... and gourmet brownies!

I just received a book from our nonprofit partner KaBOOM! called "Go Out and Play: Favorite Outdoor Games From KaBOOM!" I thought I knew a lot of outdoor games, but after skimming through the contents, I learned plenty more. What a fun idea for parents, grandparents, caregivers, teachers and anyone who loves to play.

The book is layed out according to game types: Tag games, sidewalk games, team games, no-rules games, ball games, etc. One game is listed on each page with how-to-play directions. At the bottom of each page is an easy-to-read graphic that lists age requirements, and number of players, space and materials needed.

The classics - Kick the Can, Hide-and-Seek, Capture the Flag, Red Rover, Hopscotch, and Duck, Duck, Goose - are included in "Go Out," but have you ever heard of a tag game called Don't Get Caught with the Cookie? How about Coconut Bowling? I was hoping the Clean Your Room game was exactly what it sounds like, but it involves throwing balls - LOTS of balls. As the title of the book suggests, this is an OUTDOOR game.

After playing an active game of Clean Your Room, everyone should take a Fairytale Brownies cookie or brownie break to re-energize and actually clean their rooms. Then, it might be nap time... at least for the parents.

Fairytale Brownies believes in play and has supported KaBOOM! since 2001. The nonprofit is dedicated to saving play for America's children and envisions a safe place to play within walking distance of every child. We encourage our customers who also believe that unstructured play is important to a child's well being to support KaBOOM! with a donation. Add your donation at checkout when you purchase Fairytale Brownies online. At the end of the year, we will match every dollar our customers donate, up to $5,000.

"Go Out and Play!" is available at Amazon.com, Barnes & Noble and local bookstores.
