Fairy Grandmother 'Bakes a Difference' with Gourmet Brownies

gourmet brownies

gourmet browniesFairy Grandmother Melinda Vail visited Fairytale Brownies last week to speak to young people about the important ingredients needed to become global citizens.

Vail was the highlight of "Baking A Difference," an event held at the Fairytale Brownies bakery to benefit the Scott Helping Children Foundation.

Children and parents sat on blankets in the grass in front of the bakery and sampled gourmet brownies, chewy cookies and buttery bars.Using the ingredients of a Fairytale brownie, Vail talked about love, kindness, honesty and consideration. She also discussed bullying and making good choices.

The Scott Helping Children Foundation is a service learning organization that provides educational programs to young people from kindergarten to high school. Founded by Scott's Mom, Colleen Walski, the nonprofit's focus is "heart-based service learning" - learning core values from within.

When customers use the code SCOTT14 at online checkout through Aug. 15, 2014, 15 percent of their purchase will go...

Donate Fairytale savings to support play when ordering brownies online

Most people remember to give back to their communities during the holidays. But communities, and specifically nonprofits, need help year round.

brownies onlineAs many of our customers are aware, Fairytale Brownies is a partner with the national nonprofit KaBOOM! - an organization that builds safe play spaces within walking distance of every child in America. Fairytale donates funds and brownies each year to help build those play spaces.

When customers purchase brownies online, they have the option to donate funds to KaBOOM! at checkout. Last month, one of our corporate customers chose to donate to KaBOOM! the amount they saved in Fairytale discounts. Now Fairytale Brownies will match that amount up to $5,000.

We thought this was such a good idea that we wanted to share it with all of you. The next time you place your order for brownies online or even if you call in to order with one of our friendly customer service people, donate your savings to KaBOOM! and help save play.

Of course, KaBOOM! is only one...

Gourmet brownies and Crossroads Guitar Festival music combine for a holiday gift package

Although I know of some highly organized individuals who have managed to finish their holiday shopping, I’m not one of them. If you’re like me and are still considering gift options, you might be interested in this week’s Fairytale Brownies giveaway.

gourmet browniesFairytale Brownies was proud to be a part of Eric Clapton’s Crossroads Guitar Festival 2013 held at New York’s Madison Square Garden this past spring. Musicians were treated to gourmet brownies during the festival, and from what we can tell by the video clips, the brownies did their job. Energy was high!

Held every three years since 2004, the Crossroads Guitar Festival brings the world’s greatest musicians together to perform and raise funds for the Crossroads Centre in Antigua, a chemical dependency treatment and education facility founded by Eric Clapton.

The Crossroads Guitar Festival 2013 was recorded and is available on two Blu-ray discs or as two DVDs. Audio highlights from the festival have been released as a 2-CD set featuring...

Fear the fork or fear the tree; but tailgate with Fairytale Brownies

It's a big weekend for both college football fans and art festival fans in Arizona. Arizona State University will play Stanford on Saturday to see which team will go to the 100th Rose Bowl, and thousands will attend the 45th Annual Tempe Festival of the Arts along Mill Avenue.

gourmet browniesFairytale Brownies is partial to both events for several reasons.

1. Co-founders Eileen Spitalny and David Kravetz used to sell gourmet brownies at street fairs and festivals - specifically at the Tempe Festival of the Arts - when they first began the Fairytale Brownies business 21 years ago.

2. David Kravetz graduated from Stanford University.

3. Many Fairytale Brownies team members (several of us in the Marketing Department and our Operations Team Leader) graduated from Arizona State University.

4. Eileen Spitalny is a member of the Creative Impact Board for the ASU Art Museum.

5. Fairytale Brownies was a finalist for the ASU Spirit of Enterprise Award.

6. Our Senior Web Designer Hilary Lee teaches at ASU.

Add apples to Cinnamon Crumb Blondie for a delicious fall treat

Fairytale's new Cinnamon Crumb Blondie is a hit with most everyone who tries one.

food giftBecause the brown sugar treat reminds me of apple pie without the apples, I decided to take matters into my own hands and create an apple "something" with my new favorite blondie. I cut up several Cinnamon Crumb Blondie bars and mixed them with apple pie fililng, cinnamon and some caramel sauce.

I popped the mixture into a 350-degree oven and waited for the kitchen to smell "appley."

I scooped some piping hot Apple Cinnamon Crumb Blondie mixture and placed it in a bowl; then topped it with a scoop of vanilla ice cream.

I must say, it was heavenly. So much so, that the next day when I went to serve myself another helping, I found an empty serving dish in the sink. Apparently other family members enjoyed the new blondie treat as well and ate it all!

Unfortunately, I don't have a photo of the creation. You'll just have to trust me when I say that adding apples, more cinnamon and a little bit of caramel sauce will...

Remembering my first Fairytale Brownie on Peanut Butter Fudge Day

Today, on Peanut Butter Fudge Day, I remember my first Fairytale Brownie. Even though it was eight years ago, I remember the delicious experience because it was right after my first interview at the Fairytale Brownies bakery.

fudge browniesI didn't eat breakfast before the job interview, so as I eyed the refrigerated display of 12 flavors of fudge brownies, my stomach roared a loud growl of hunger...

I always seem to make the best first impressions!

I quickly chose the Peanut Butter fudge brownie. I figured if I spent any more time thinking about the other available flavors, who knew what else my stomach would decide to "say."

When I returned to my car and finally unwrapped the brownie, I tasted pure enchantment. I couldn't believe such chocolaty goodness could be found in a packaged brownie. I was hooked and couldn't wait to try the other 11 flavors.

Of course, after eight years I've tried all of the flavors many times and my favorites have changed as well. But because it was my first, the Peanut Butter...

Choose Walnut fudge brownies on National Nut Day

fudge browniesDuring the first couple of weeks working at Fairytale Brownies, each team member shadow trains with every department to get a feel for who does what and how the company runs.

On the day I shadow trained with the baking department, we made Walnut fudge brownies. Plump, tender walnuts were weighed and distributed across batter-filled trays so that once baked, each brownie bite would include a walnut piece.

I remember fighting the urge to imitate Little Jack Horner and retreive one of those tempting nutty bits with my fingers. Nothing like being fired my first week on the job! Although I resisted, eight years later, the thought still seems tempting.

Check out this tray of Pecan fudge brownies. Don't you just want a piece?

Today is National Nut Day. Celebrate with your favorite nut - the NUTRITIOUS: walnut, pecan, hazelnut, almond, etc. - and the WACKY: husband, wife, mom, dad, brother, sister, friend, etc.
