The giant purple carpet covering the grounds at Children First Academy of Tempe on Friday wasn't your average berber.
This carpet was made from 200 purple t-shirt-clad volunteers that arrived at "O dark 30" to build a playground.
What an awesome group of volunteers! Together, we moved 175 cubic yards of wood chips; mixed 8 pallets of cement; built two slides, a tire swing, bounce buttons, a geodome, a climbing wall, two tether ball posts, a prehistoric basketball hoop, and two deck landings; also built two shade structures, five picnic tables and several benches; and painted hopscotch, four-square, a start and finish line for runners, two soccer goal posts, a basketball court, kickball bases, targets for dodgeball, a school crest and a mural. We also planted flowers!
Volunteers stayed hydrated and energy-filled with plenty of water and Fairytale Brownies' cookies and fudgy brownies.
Here are a few photos to highlight the day:

The mulch is delivered!
The mulch is spread.

A big thank you to all of our sponsors and volunteers. Your hard work paid off this morning when the students had their official ribbon cutting ceremony and tried out the playground for the first time.
There were so many smiles!
