We're all a bit of Irish on St. Patrick's Day

Wednesday, March 17, 2010 by Alyssa Andrews
I just took a quiz to see how Irish I am and discovered that I'm 40% shy of being named Patricia O'Grady. Actually, I'm 100% Italian (I was born a Fiaschetti), but on St. Patrick's Day, I'm as Irish as the next person.

Maybe I was just confused because I work at a brownie bakery and I'm used to the "brownie guy" performing his good deeds at night... Maybe I love our gourmet brownies so much that I incorporate them into unrelated topics.

Here are the questions I missed on the Irish quiz:

1. Leprechauns are traditionally known for what?

A. Dancing
B. Baking delicious fudge brownies
C. Shoemaking

Although the correct answer is "C", I've never seen a leprechaun making shoes. He's usually running away from someone trying to steal his gold or taste his brownie batter before its baked.

2. St. Patrick was kidnapped by whom?

A. Soldiers
B. Pirates
C. Priests

The correct answer is B. Who knew? I bet the pirates heard St. Patrick was friends with the "brownie guy" and they wanted to ransom him for a treasure chest full of Magic Morsels.

3. Traditionally, who would not wear green on St. Patrick's Day?

A. Children
B. The Fairytale Brownies' team.
C. Women

The correct answer is A, but according to one source, no one likes to wear green in Ireland because it's considered an unlucky color. The Fairytale Brownies' team won't be wearing green either. It's not a part of our approved color pallet.

4. The first offical St. Patrick's Day parade took place in what city?

A. Chicagoland
B. Downtown Phoenix
C. New York
D. Fairytaleland

The correct answer is C, but I think if Fairytaleland existed in 1762, the parade would have been held here.

That's all the blarney I have for today. Have a Fairytale St. Patrick's Day next week!
