Fairytale Brownies Blog

Friday, February 19, 2010 by Brandie Davenport
Thank you very much to everyone who takes the time to read the Fairytale Brownies blog! We recently had a meeting to discuss how we can make our blog more interesting and draw more readers to it. We have a team of 9 bloggers and I think we came up with some pretty good ideas. After our meeting I got to thinking and realized what better way to find out what you want to read but to ask you! So, what is it you like to hear about? Obviously our gourmet brownies, but what else? Would you like to see more behind the scenes posts from the Fairytale bakery? Would you like more ideas on what to buy brownies for? More brownie recipes? We would love to hear any ideas you might have!

Eat brownies on Sundays during Lent

Wednesday, February 17, 2010 by Alyssa Andrews
Today is Ash Wednesday, a day of fasting, and the first day of the 40 days of Lent. Some Christians traditionally give up a habit or food during this time. For those who have given up dessert, chocolate or sugar for their Lenten tradition, don't forget that Sundays are your "free" days.

That's when you can have some gourmet brownies from Fairytale Brownies. I would suggest the Magic Morsels. They are bite-sized and will satisfy your dark chocolate craving without totally blowing the whole purpose of sacrifice during this season.

When I was growing up, I never was told about Sundays not being a part of Lent. Imagine my doubt when I learned about it as an adult! This is how it was explained to me: There are 40 days of Lent to reminds us of Jesus' 40 days in the desert and the 40 years that the Israelites spent in the desert before getting to the promised land. Six weeks of Monday - Saturday makes 36 days. Add Ash Wednesday and the 3 days after it and you get 40 days. Sundays don't count.

So stock up on fudge brownies. Sunday's coming...

Brownies: A great runners snack?

Wednesday, February 10, 2010 by Brandie Davenport

Kari in our Marketing Department got the email below from her cousin Matt:

Hey there!
So your brownies are my new pre-run meal! I ate one just to get something in me before I ran 12 miles yesterday and I felt great during the run! So I came home and looked on the wrapper and you it's pretty great for workouts - the carbs, sodium, etc... are good! I am going to order some online.

Wow! I had no idea! I mean I knew our fudge brownies were tasty but had no clue they would help a runner have a great run. Thanks Kari and Matt for sharing this with us. Happy running!

Last minute Birthday Brownies!

Tuesday, February 9, 2010 by Brandie Davenport
This weekend was a crazy weekend for me, I moved. For the past couple weeks that has been the only thing on my mind... boxes, packing, renting a moving truck, transferring utilities and all the other annoying things that come with moving. I got to work yesterday morning and looked at my calendar... dang it! Wednesday is my little sisters birthday! I was at the store a dozen times this weekend and didn't even get her a card! For about 10 minutes I sat here thinking about what a horrible sister I was. She lives in Illinois so there is no way a card will get to her in time now! My mind started racing about what I could order to get to her by Wednesday and then it hit me... buy Brownies! I don't know why I forgot about the awesome Birthday Celebration gift we have! It comes with 18 delightfully rich, snack-size Fairytale Sprites, a fluffy Brownie Bear, a KaBOOM! kazoo, 4 Fairytale purple balloons, 12 message candles, a classic Pin the Tail on the Donkey game and a birthday button all wrapped in a box with a Happy Birthday band! Since I can't celebrate with my sister on her birthday I sent the celebration to her! I'm pretty sure her birthday will become a little happier when she opens the box to find all these goodies and our delicious gourmet brownies inside!

Brownies - Claudia's 101 in 1001

Monday, February 8, 2010 by Customer Brownie Stories
I found out about Fairytale Brownies through a military-themed website, Soldier's Angels. I've been wanting some for awhile, so when the opportunity presented itself (this was a reward of sorts for ot spending lots of money on something else :P) I shose some to try out. I ended up getting the box of 8-Sprites in Original, Chocolate Chip and Walnut for myself, and Original, Caramel, and Mint for Eric. He has three and I have 5 shhh! So far I've just had the Original and never had I had a more fluffy brownie. Isn't the packaging just beauriful? :) Not sure if you can red the card, but it says that the brownies are guaranteed fresh on arrival and they can last up to 30 days in the refrigerator and 6 months in the freezer. Um, not, they won't be there that long!

Kurt Warner Sent Brownies To Teams That Beat the Arizona Cardinals?

Thursday, February 4, 2010 by Hilary Lee
Here is an interesting article that I came across that talked about how Kurt Warner sent brownies to the Saints coach after they beat the Cardinals in the playoffs. This article references our own Fairytale Brownies Blog article written by Alyssa, our Marketing and PR guru. The author seems really surprised that Kurt would send brownies to a "foe" - but I surely am not.  We've grown VERY fond of Kurt at Fairytale Brownies, especially because we donate 20% of the proceeds of every brownie order placed with the source code FTFFTB to Kurt's First Things First Foundation. Quoting Alyssa, "Thank you Kurt for spreading the brownie love!" Oh, and just to clear things up....Fairytale Brownies are not laxative laced or of the "special" variety! They are truly "A Taste Of Pure Enchantment!"
----------------------------------------------------
Article Source: www.newsfootballshare.com
There aren't many people who would deny that former Cardinals quarterback Kurt Warner is a good guy. But it turns out he may be nicer than any of us ever thought. According to the blog Ask Alyssa All Things PR/Marketing on the Fairytale Brownies Blog, Warner is amazingly nice even in defeat!

"First we want to thank Kurt Warner for being a Fairytale Brownies Fan. He sent congratulations brownies to Saints coach Sean Payton after the team won against the Cardinals in the NFC divisional playoffs, and then sent another brownie box to him after the Saints beat the Vikings. Thank you, Kurt, for spreading the brownie love!"

Send brownies to the coach of the team that not only knocked your team out of the playoffs but also knocked you out of the game. That's just saintly. And he did it not once, but  twice! The only way most athletes would even consider sending brownies to a foe is if they're laxative laced or of  the "special" variety just days before a league drug test. It's unclear whether this was a one-time thing, or if Warner has extended similar niceties to others who have knocked his teams out of the playoffs.

But you've got to wonder, exactly how many brownies do you send someone for winning the Superbowl? I guess I'll have to "Ask Alyssa" next week if the Saints beat the Colts!

Cool Things People Are Saying About Fairytale Brownies!

Wednesday, February 3, 2010 by Hilary Lee
This week I received a surprise email from one of our business affiliates, The Employee Network, that they had recently held a contest encouraging their members to write testimonials of participating businesses to win a Sedona Weekend Getaway. Several of their members wrote testimonials on behalf of Fairytale Brownies! Here is what they had to say about us:

Richard from Bank of America wrote:
"My testimonial is for Fairytale Brownies. I just wanted to tell you what a quality company they are. I was impressed from their website brownies.com to their delicious looking gourmet brownies of course. Their brownie selection is so varied and each one looks so scrumptious. I ordered a variety box and every flavor of brownie became my new favorite! Thank you for having them as a merchant."

Jeff from the City of Mesa wrote:
"Two weeks before Christmas we had relatives in from St. Louis, MO. My wife and I took them on a tour of the Fairytale Brownies Bakery. Everyone loved the samples and filled their lists with holiday gift boxes. The week after Christmas we got calls from relatives asking where they could get more so we gave them the brownies.com website so they could order brownies online. The 15% discount code they gave us was a big help too. Thanks for carrying Fairytale Brownies as a vendor!"

Thanks to everyone who submitted entries on behalf of Fairytale Brownies! We couldn't do it without the great support of our friends and customers!

A Fairytale Birthday!

Wednesday, February 3, 2010 by Brandie Davenport
Monday was our graphic designer Erin's birthday. She took Monday off to enjoy a nice relaxing day so we celebrated today. We ordered in lunch from one of her favorite places, Dilly's Deli. It was delicious! She didn't want us to sing to her but we did anyway! :) Happy Birthday Erin!

I'm getting a seat on the couch!

Wednesday, February 3, 2010 by Alyssa Andrews

Bringing the right dessert to a Super Bowl party will determine whether you get to lounge on the cushy couch in front of the big screen, or have to weave your body from side to side in a folding chair behind a 6'5" guy named "Buck" who won't sit still.

You know there will be plenty of football-shaped cakes and chocolate chip cookies at the party and they'll be quite tasty. But what if you brought fudge brownies from Fairytale Brownies instead? That spot on the couch will have your name on it!

I'm trying to decide what form my gourmet brownie dessert will take.

I might buy a couple of cut-and-serve 1 lb. Brownie Trays (sold at all AJ's Fine Foods in Arizona) and frost one of them with fudge frosting or maybe cream cheese frosting. The other brownie tray will be for the purists who just like their brownies naked, thank you.

If I decide to spend a little time in the kitchen, I might layer some brownies, pudding, fruit and whipped cream to create a delicious trifle. Maybe I'll use Toffee Crunch brownies, and instead of fruit, I'll throw some chocolate chips in between the layers. Would it still be called a trifle? Whatever. If the fruit is that important, I'll decorate with it on the trifle top... and add some chocolate sauce and chopped nuts, too!

Getting people to talk about and eat your dessert is key. While they're "oohing" and "aahing," you'll be lounging ON THE COUCH where you deserve to be because you brought Fairytale Brownies.

Trust me. I know. I've sat behind Buck before.

February 5th is World Nutella Day - I am not a Nutella fan but for those that are try spreading it on one of our yummy brownies!

Hope everyone has a wonderful February!

Fairytale Brownies and Kurt Warner spread the brownie love

Monday, February 1, 2010 by Alyssa Andrews

It's Super Bowl week and Fairytale Brownies is excited to be a part of some of the activities.

First, we want to thank Kurt Warner for being a Fairytale Brownies Fan. He sent congratulations brownies to Saints coach Sean Payton after the team won against the Cardinals in the NFC divisional playoffs, and then sent another brownie box to him after the Saints beat the Vikings. Thank you, Kurt, for spreading the brownie love!

This year also marks the third year that Fairytale Brownies will participate in the Taste of the NFL. This food and wine tasting extravaganza is held the night before the Super Bowl in the host city. A top chef from each of the 31 NFL cities is pared with an alumnus or current player from each team. Arizona's representatives are Chef Eddie Matney from Eddie's House, and Arizona Cardinals tight end Ben Patrick. The event raises awareness and dollars for hunger relief organizations involved in tackling hunger in America. Our brownies will be served to the volunteers and the VIPs at the event.

A new event for us is the Pro Players & Wives Clubhouse, hosted by the Professional Sports Wives Association. Held at the Hyatt Regency Downtown Miami on Friday and Saturday, the soiree is for pro players and adult family members to meet, eat lunch, receive gifts and resources, be pampered, reunite and shop. Our Magic Morsels will be a part of the food station and Sprites will be inside the goody bags. This event will raise funds for local and national charities.

PPAI Expo 2010

Thursday, January 28, 2010 by Brandie Davenport
Well Kristie and I are back from Vegas. We decided to stay for a extra week or so. Just kidding! We have been back for a while but have been working very hard to get all the catalogs out that were requested. We talked to over 600 people, sampled over 1000 of our delicious fudge brownies and sent out over 1200 catalogs! Here are some pictures we took at the show...

Here is what our booth looked like when we first got there.

And this is what it looked like when we were done working our magic.

We had a spot on our table dedicated to our Valentine brownie gifts.

This is our display in the New Products Pavilion. We featured our newest custom logo corporate gift item, custom label brownies. They were a hit!

Thank you to everyone who helped make the show a sweet success for us!

Fairytale Brownies plans for Fall 2010

Wednesday, January 27, 2010 by Hilary Lee
Today we had our companywide all-staff meeting to review the 2009 holiday season and to brainstorm ideas on how we can better improve our systems and processes for efficiency. We also celebrated several birthday and employee anniversaries today with pizza from Red Devil and chocolate cake with cheesecake filling!  We compiled a list of hundreds of ideas (from all employees - top to bottom) for process and systems improvements. We make this a yearly brainstorming session because we realized that some of the best cost saving ideas come from those who work with those different systems every day! Here is a picture of us in our "after pizza & cake" coma! By the way, we also talked extensively about our new product initiatives and are VERY excited about new products coming your way for Fall 2010 (hint: Fairytale Cookies and lots of new packaging)! So keep your eyes peeled for that!

Video Clip from Fancy Food Show 2010

Fairytale Brownies at 2010 Fancy Food Show!

Tuesday, January 26, 2010 by Eileen Spitalny
Fairytale Brownies' products were among the 80,000 food items sampled at NASFT's 35th Winter fancy Food Show this month at the Moscone Center in San Francisco. Although we've attended the show for many years as shoppers, this was our second year attending as an exhibitor.

Kim, David, Holly and I handed out about 5,000 brownie and brownie truffle samples during the three-day show, and displayed our line of brownies available to food service providers, retailers and catalogers.

Our new Retail Display Box for Fairytale's individually wrapped brownies was a hit with everyone who stopped by our booth. The box arrives shrink-wrapped with 12 brownies, 18 Sprites or 24 Magic Morsels inside. Retailers simply open the box, and re-adjust the lid to pop up at the back of the box. The pop up lid converts the box to a self-contained shelf display for the brownies.

Andrea and Sean, two pastry chefs at Citizen Cake in San Francisco, decorated our Fairytale Half-sheet for the show so that food buyers could see one of the many ways our brownies can be served. They decorated it with butterflies and spring purple and green.

Check our our booth in this video clip from NASFT.
