Welcome 2010!

Thursday, January 7, 2010 by Brandie Davenport

It's a new year so I figured I better get back into the habit of blogging again! December was a crazy busy month for us so I got a little distracted. I am back now to blog about anything and everything to do with Fairytale Brownies!

It's already the 7th of January but there are still lots of wacky ways to celebrate the month!

January is Celebration of Life Month
- I like this one. Every month should be a celebration of life!
January is Hot Tea Month - We have been told on several occasions that our fudge brownies go every well with a hot steamy cup of tea.

January 17th - 23rd is Hunt for Happiness Week - You came to the right place! Since you are on our website you have to hunt no more, order brownies and your happiness will arrive in about 3 business days!

January 19th is Rid the World of Fad Diets and Gimmicks Day - I like this one a lot too. Even if it's just for the day I am going to celebrate this one by having a chocolate brownie for breakfast, lunch and dinner!
January 29th is Fun at Work Day - Everyday is a fun day at the Fairytale Bakery. If your office needs some fun having a box of gourmet brownies delivered will do the trick!

Hope everyone's year is off to a great start! I have a very good feeling that 2010 is going to be a Fairytale year!

Goal - 2,000 Facebook Fans!

Thursday, January 7, 2010 by Hilary Lee
Recently we held a Facebook "Refer A Friend" contest on our Facebook Fan page. We asked our fans to refer one friend to our page and when they did, they were entered into a drawing to win a delicious gourmet brownie gift from Fairytale Brownies. We had a great response from our fans! They were excited to share "A Taste Of Pure Enchantment" with their friends and families. We received over 300 entires and countless referrals!

Finally on December 31st, we reached our goal of 2,000 - thanks largely in part to our fans! We put all of the entires in a fish bowl and held a random drawing for 3 winners to win a Fairytale Delights gift (pictured left)

The Fairytale Delights is a rich and delectable trove of desserts, toppings and beverages. Placed inside our giant purple box are 12 brownies, 6 Fairytale Sprites, a 4 oz. bag of Fairytale Jumbo Cashews, 8 oz. each of Fairytale Coffee and Fairtytale Cocoa, plus 1 jar each of our Chocolate and Caramel Fairytale Endings dessert sauces. Each of our 3 winners were excited to win this delicious prize. Some of our winners even documented their gift arrival and posted the pictures on our Facebook Fan page. Visit our page today to see pictures and while your there - please become a Fairytale Brownies Fan!

Here is a picture of Alyssa and I drawing the names of our 3 winners! I have no idea why I have such a surprised look on my face (I am on the right). Maybe I was over-excited to pick the winners and tell them about their delicious prize ;-).

Fairytale Brownies Review! Yum Yum!

Thursday, December 31, 2009 by Customer Brownie Stories
I have to tell you about some wonderful gourmet brownies we received around Christmas! These are top on the list for my family. They are Fairytale Brownies. To begin with, they come in a lovely holiday box and each brownie is individually packaged for presentation and freshness. We received an assorted box and it came with the following flavors: Pecan, Peanut Butter, Caramel, Chocolate Chip, Original and White Chocolate. I can say I sampled every one of them except the White Chocolate, which my daughter devoured Christmas morning, and they are simply ...aahhhhh, delicious! My favorite was the Caramel, but all of them are super. These taste like they were fresh and cooked just for us. My granddaughter summer Leigh Anne enjoyed half of one and as you can see that was not enough. The chocolate on the mouth gives her away as she is trying to get more! Which she did! Grandson Kolby quickly took his and moved to the corner of the couch, he got comfortable and enjoyed the Pecan brownie. Looks like he liked it! What do you think? Now I would like to add. I do not typically have lots of sweets lying around but these are not really sweet. You can enjoy these and not feel like you have cheated yourself. These almost taste like, naturally sweet, not a lot of added nonsense. These brownies can be ordered online and they will quickly arrive. So easy!! They ship any gift for only $6.95 per address and Delivery in 3 business days guaranteed! The only negative thing I could say is that the Peanut Butter one fell apart easily into several pieces. It was soft and crumbly and they are a little pricey, around $3 each but for gourmet brownies they are reasonable. So do I recommend these?? YES! I will be ordering again and this time will try and get a few extras for other family members. Yes these are definitely for sharing. For birthdays, holidays, or maybe a special thank you food gift. I did not receive anything free for this review, and is my honest opinion of this product. Have a blessed and safe new year! Betty

Peanut Buster Brownies make deliciously easy treat

Monday, December 14, 2009 by Alyssa Andrews

Because I'm considered the "brownie lady" to my friends, when I go to a party, it's expected that I bring brownies. Yesterday was one of those times. I went to a "dessert" theater holiday performance. The audience sips coffee and samples various desserts while the performers do their thing.

I decided to modify an old dessert pizza recipe to make individual treats. Here is my recipe for PEANUT BUSTER BROWNIES...

PEANUT BUSTER BROWNIES

18 Fairytale Brownies
(I used 6 Original, 6 Peanut Butter and 6 Chocolate Chip)
1 cup creamy peanut butter
1 8 oz. package of cream cheese
1 cup brown sugar
2 packages of Reese's Peanut Butter Cups (1.6 oz. size - 2 cups in a package)
chopped peanuts
Fairytale Endings Chocolate Sauce

Mix peanut butter, cream cheese and brown sugar until smooth. Spread over individual brownies.

Chop the peanut butter cups and sprinkle on top of brownies. Sprinkle peanuts on top of brownies as well (I just eyeballed it).

Melt 3 heaping tablespoons of Fairytale Endings Chocolate Sauce in microwave and drizzle over brownies.

You can either serve right away or cover with plastic wrap and refrigerate until ready to serve.

If you are serving more than one dessert, you might want to cut the brownies in half because they're quite rich. Here is a picture of a "Sprites" version.

This is such an easy recipe to make. Not having to bake the brownies saves you lots of time, too!

New York journalist loves Fairytale Brownies

Wednesday, December 9, 2009 by Alyssa Andrews
About five years ago, Fairytale Brownies attended its first Chocolate Show in New York City to sell brownies to chocolate lovers on the East Coast. With 20,000 plus in attendance, we made quite a few new friends. We returned each year since then (except this year) and were welcomed back by many of those dedicated fudge brownie lovers. One fan in particular has been our champion spokesperson - Merle Exit.

Merle is a journalist, comedian and most recently book author ("Whirl with Merle - It's a Humorous Life") who discovered us in 2005 while covering the Chocolate Show for a story she was writing. She has continued to promote Fairytale on her talk radio show. Whenever she travels for her stories, she spreads the brownie word as well. We're so glad Merle loves our brownies!

Most recently, she was interviewing the cast and director of a New York show called "The Gayest Christmas Pageant Ever" and took a moment to talk about her talk radio sponsor, Fairytale Brownies. Everyone was so interested in the brownies that the 30-second spot turned into a 5-minute infomercial! Thank you, Merle!

Here is the link to Merle's mention of us. She eventually does talk about the show.

The out-of-towners are getting brownie gifts for Christmas

Tuesday, December 8, 2009 by Alyssa Andrews
I just finished placing my Christmas food gift order and I hope I didn't forget anyone! All of my relatives back East are getting fudge brownies from Fairytale Brownies.

No surprise really. I used to switch food gift companies each year. One year Aunt Pat received muffins, the next year she received cookies. But once I ordered Fairytale Brownies online four years ago, shipped brownies are just expected.
Now I switch gifts within the Fairytale Brownies family - one year they get brownies, another year they get Sprites.

This year, some of them are receiving Candy Cane Truffles. Our truffles are bite-sized mint brownies covered in 60% dark chocolate and sprinkled with crushed candy canes. I fondly refer to them as "little bundles of joyful essence" because my tastebuds dance a happy dance when I eat them!

Other relatives are receiving our Winter Sprite Wonderland. This gift includes an assortment of 16 Sprites (3" x 1 1.2" brownies) packed in a wintry blue snowflake gift box.

The brownies are delicious, of course, so I know they will love this gift, too.

You can ship brownies to your loved ones in time for the holidays as well. Order online at www.brownies.com or call 800.FAIRYTALE.

All of this talking about shopping made me hungry so I'm going to take a brownie break now.

Secret Santa

Tuesday, December 8, 2009 by Brandie Davenport
This morning the Marketing Team here at Fairytale Brownies exchanged names for our Secret Santa gift exchange. We all wrote down three things we like on a piece of paper, put them in a hat and took turns picking. It's so exciting to start thinking about what special gift you are going to pick out for the person you chose. We set the spending limit at $20 so I am very excited to see what I can find! This got me thinking what an awesome Secret Santa gift Fairytale Brownies would make! Under $20 we have at least 7 different gifts to choose from! My favorite gift under $20 is our Magic Morsel Dozen. This gift is one dozen of our perfectly portioned bite-size Magic Morsels. It includes 3 each of Original, Caramel, Chocolate Chip and Walnut flavors in a beautiful purple box with silver lining. I think a box of fudge brownies would make someone very happy!

We had such an awesome treat today when the owner of Arizona Cheesecake Company stopped by and gave us a custom Fairytale Brownie & Caramel Cheesecake!

OMG is all I have to say - the 9" cheesecake was totally delicious. The ingredients he used in the cheesecake were: Cream Cheese, Sugar, Fairytale Brownies (crushed), Eggs, Brown Sugar, Cream, Butter, Flour, Fairytale Brownies Caramel Sauce, Corn Starch and Vanilla. We are going to try and get the recipe to share with all of you so you can make this sweet treat at home. The only thing I think it needed was MORE deliciously fudgy Fairytale Brownies :-)).

Fairytale Brownies featured on ABC News 15 in Phoenix!

Tuesday, December 1, 2009 by Hilary Lee

Watch the video broadcast here. PHOENIX -- Cyber Monday is the start of a busy season for one local business.

"We have Black Friday, when everyone went to the malls, and Cyber Monday is when everyone gets online and starts shopping," said
Fairytale Brownies owner David Kravetz.

Kravetz says the company is hoping to cash in on some of that online business. "We do most of our business at the holiday season, so Cyber Monday is sort of the kick off for us," said Kravetz.

He says it's brownie making at its best. "We have the best brownies around," said Kravetz proudly. On thier busiest day last December, Fairytale Brownies shipped 15,000 packages in one day. "About 60 percent of our orders come in through our website," said Kravetz. Kravetz says most of the company's busiest days come in mid-December. "In the month of December we do 20 times the business than we do in our slowest month of the year," said Kravetz.

The sweet sales start on Cyber Monday, and at Fairytale Brownies they're ready. "Everything we do is designed really for that one or two peak days to make sure we can handle it and we plan all year for that," said Kravetz."

Fairytale Brownies: A Chocolate Lovers Dream Come True

Monday, November 30, 2009 by Hilary Lee
The following is a review of Fairytale Brownies reposted on behalf of "Mom Works Blog."

"I was delighted to receive a Belgian chocolate brownie gift box from Fairytale Brownies. The gift box was beautifully packaged. It was very evident that great care was taken beginning with the production and all the way through  to the packaging of these delicious fudgy brownie treats.

We received the
Fairytale Dozen & Cocoa, which included an 8oz. tin of velvety smooth Fairytale Cocoa and 12 of their  gourmet brownie flavors. There was plenty to share! My family thoroughly enjoyed the gourmet brownies from the time we opened the box, up until the last treat was eaten (we still have a bit of hot cocoa to enjoy - yeah - which is as chocolaty and delicious as the brownies).

The brownies were incredibly fresh and rich, they were the best brownies we've ever tasted. ALL of the ingredients were pure quality - the chocolate, the nuts, the caramel - you name it! Whether you are gifting the product or purchasing it for yourself, the great thing is that you can maintain freshness in the refrigerator or even in the freezer for 6 months if necessary. Although, I don't think they'll make it into the freezer; they are that good!

These chocolate brownies were very generous in size. In most cases I was an excellent sharer. However, I must admin that there was this one time that I took a half of a caramel brownie and packaged the remaining half for another time. Unfortunately for the rest of the family I was back for the second half within minutes. I simply couldn't resist! We have YET to try some of the other flavors that sound equally tempting. We sampled six of the twelve flavors, all of which received rave reviews.

The twelve flavors include: Original, Caramel, Chocolate Chip, Cream Cheese, Espresso Nib, Mint Chocolate, Peanut Butter, Pecan, Raspberry Swirl, Toffee Crunch, Walnut and White Chocolate. All of these flavors are available in a number of festive holiday gifts! Consider Fairytale Brownies should you have a tradition of gifting something sweet. These gourmet chocolate brownies will be a welcomed, much enjoyed delight for the chocolate lovers on your holiday gift list!

Be sure to stop by
brownies.com. They have a wonderful website, support great causes and whip up the tastiest chocolate brownie treats! Fairytale Brownies is on my holiday shopping list this year. I have to distant relatives that will receive a holiday gift package from Fairytale Brownies, as well as the hostess of one of celebrations. Fairytale Brownies was kind enough to offer a free shipping code for this holiday season! Enjoy Free Shipping for merchandise of $30 or more by using priority code MOMBLOG at checkout through December 31, 2009. Sweeten someone's holiday, or even your own!"

Behind the scenes with Fairytale on Cyber Monday

Monday, November 30, 2009 by Alyssa Andrews

Today is Cyber Monday, the busiest day of the year for online shopping. Jay Reynolds of ABC 15 stopped by the bakery to discuss web shopping with David Kravetz, Fairytale's Co-Founder and Catalog & Web Team Leader.

David and Jay reviewed web order stats from 2008 and compared last year's Cyber Monday's orders with this year. At 10:30 a.m., Fairytale received 50% more web orders than last year!

Today's Fairytale Brownies sale of 20% on select items is doing well.

Jay toured the bakery to familiarize himself - and photograph - the brownie baking and shipping processes.

Get the scoop on purchasing fudge brownies online during Jay's interview with David at 6 p.m. today on KNXV-TV Channel 15.

Pictured above, David Kravetz talks about online shopping for Fairytale Brownies holiday gifts.

Making my son's day

Tuesday, November 24, 2009 by Customer Brownie Stories
My son with special needs loves brownies. It really is the only sweet treat he will eat. When I bake brownies as a surprise treat, he will smell them baking and will say, "What's that I smell? Is is brownies?". I have to hide the pan of brownies or he will eat them all in 1 sitting.

Fairytale Brownies Review & Giveaway

Wednesday, November 18, 2009 by Hilary Lee

On behalf of our Momblogger, "My Loonyverse," I am reposting this Fairytale Brownies review and giveaway for a Christmas Dozen

"Oh. My. Word. For the first time ever, I like a base brownie recipe better than my own. I know how conceited that sounds but when you have been making something for years, you know exactly how to tailor it to your specific tastes. I was impressed from the get go- everything from the emails to the packaging had me thinking- this company is something special. The more I read, the more I found to like.

You can read their story - from how they got started to where they are now - it is impressive. A long time friendship, a family recipe and a passion for brownies along with a commitment to excellence and they are up to over 2.5 million brownies annually. Their little mascot and spreader of joy is Brownie, a cheerful fairy of Celtic lore who delights in doing good deeds. Fairytale Brownies are all natural, certified kosher and free of Trans fats, hydrogenated oils, preservatives and artificial colors.

Fairytale Brownies gives back- because it all started on a playground, Fairytale Brownies supports KaBOOM!, a national non-profit organization that empowers communities to build playgrounds.  They donate brownies and a portion of their profits- you can help too- at checkout you can choose to donate a dollar by clicking give the gift of play at checkout.

We received the Christmas Dozen to review, and it was one of those gifts that are a delight to unwrap- you know the presents that you just know something special is inside because of the care that went into presentation- that's what you get with your package from Fairytale Brownies. We started with the white chocolate and didn't stop until we were almost sick from eating so much! Yes, they were that good. 12 delicious flavors including caramel, chocolate chip, cream cheese, espresso nib, mint chocolate, original, peanut butter, pecan, raspberry swirl, toffee crunch, walnut and the aforementioned white chocolate. Each was truly a delectable treat and all were excellent- as I've always said, quality ingredients and a passion for what you are doing makes all the difference.

As much as I wish I could toss in my brownie-making apron, I just can't justify ordering every time I get a brownie craving, however, I absolutely will be ordering them. They are very reasonably priced, and make an extremely impressive gift. In addition to the 3" x 3" Fairytale Brownies we received they have Fairytale Sprites 3" x 1.5" and Fairytale Magic Morsels 1.5" x 1.5".

You can shop by price and there are several options that would make fabulous teachers gifts or for those faraway loved ones. Your mail carrier- especially if you keep them hopping like I do with wins and such. Hostess gifts- I have been to many functions where it would have been perfectly acceptable and more than polite to bring a gift and if you bring Fairytale Brownies the host/hostess could choose to plate them up then or save them later to hog by themselves - yes, I'd probably do that. ;-)

There are several packaging options, including some with hot chocolate and Truffles and...  no, I won't tell you everything they have because I want you to go to the site to see all there is and tell me your fave for your main entry. Try not to drool on your keyboard. That's right- Fairytale Brownies has generously offered one of our readers a chance to win the Christmas Dozen. I have to say we're wishing we could enter our own giveaway, they are so good!"

Scientists Prove Dark Chocolate Eases Stress!

Monday, November 16, 2009 by Hilary Lee
That settles it! Gourmet Chocolate Fairytale Brownies for breakfast, lunch and dinner for a stress free day! This is a very interesting article on how dark chocolate (we use Callebaut Dark Chocolate in our gourmet chocolate brownies) has been proven to reduce stress. Article source Emax Health.com.

"The benefits of consuming dark chocolate for its antioxidant properties has been known, but until now dark chocolate was only suspected for easing stress. Now scientists have proven that dark chocolate alters metabolism and lowers stress biomarkers. Consuming an ounce and a half of dark chocolate is now found to lower stress hormones in a study of highly stressed people, adding to the list of health benefits of cocoa flavinoids.

Dark chocolate can reduce risk of heart disease, relieve pain, lower blood pressure, and protect from skin cancer. The new findings show that daily consumption reduced stress hormones and other stress-related biochemical markers among study volunteers. The authors write, "The study provides strong evidence that a daily consumption of 40 grams [1.4 ounces] during a period of 2 weeks is sufficient to modify the metabolism of healthy human volunteers."

Chocolate is complex, and rich in a variety of bioactive compounds. "The sheer complexity of a food matrix, such as dark chocolate, may determine a large variety of effects on the metabolism. Studies have indeed demonstrated the potential health implications of dark chocolate constituents, but rarely as a whole product."

The study included 30 stressed individuals who self reported anxiety levels as low or high. Using an approach called nutrimetabonomics, the researchers assessed the metabolic status of the study participants. The scientists used proton nuclear magnetic resonance (1H NMR) spectroscopy and mass spectrometry (MS) to evaluate daily metabolic changes that occurred from consuming 40 grams of dark chocolate daily over a period of two weeks, measuring urine and blood samples.

The participants snacked on dark chocolate mid-morning (20 grams), and as an afternoon snack. After two weeks, metabolic changes that occurred from eating dark chocolate were intensified. According to the results, "Intriguingly…profiling showed that chocolate-induced metabolic effects were statistically significant only in subjects with inherent high anxiety trait." Dark chocolate lowered levels of catecholamines (adrenaline, noradrenaline, normetanephrine), corticosterone, and the stress hormone cortisol in the study group.

Additional evidence of the benefits of dark chocolate included "a partial normalization of stress-related differences in energy metabolism and gut microbial activities" - an important area of current research. Intestinal bacteria play a significant role in boosting immunityDark chocolate is now shown to lower stress hormones in the body. The findings mean that consuming dark chocolate daily could lead to long-term beneficial health consequences associated with easing stress. Consider adding the tasty treat daily for better health."

Sampling Fudge Brownies

Friday, October 30, 2009 by Hilary Lee
This post is written by Hilary on behalf of Holly, our new Wholesale Team Member.

"Hello! My name is Holly and I am on the Wholesale team here at Fairytale Brownies. I am new to the Fairytale Brownies team and have enjoyed every moment. What's not to enjoy when you are selling such incredible brownies and working with an awesome group! The Wholesale team sells our gourmet brownies to retail stores, food service, restaurants and distributors. We sell Brownies, Sprites, Magic Morsels, Truffles, 1lb and 2lb Brownie trays to our wholesale customers along with 1/2 sheet (4 lb) trays to restaurants and food service. We have been in the wholesale business since July 2009. Now when you get a craving for a Fairytale Brownie, you can go to a growing list of retail outlets to get your Fairytale Brownies fix! Click here for a list of retail stores.

Last weekend I had the pleasure to be involved with my first Fairytale Brownies sampling events at AJ's Fine Food stores in the Phoenix Metro area. It was great fun to sample Brownies and Truffles and share our Fairytale Brownies story with new customers. I especially enjoyed having customers walk up to me and tell me how much they LOVE Fairytale Brownies and how long they've been fans. My favorite customer was a pre-teen girl that came up to the table with her Mom and she was very excited. She had seen Fairytale Brownies in the Food Network show "Unwrapped" and now she was seeing us in person!

The samplings were a big success. The customers were thrilled with the samples and they took advantage of the great deal at AJ's for 1/2 off the 1 lb Walnut trays (sale price of $5.99). The sale continues through October 31st, so you still have an opportunity to pick some up for those Halloween parties. I look forward to meeting more Fairytale Brownies fans at future sampling events! - Holly P."
