History on Mother's Day: Some of the earliest tributes to Mother's date back to the annual spring festival the Greeks dedicated to Rhea, the mother of many deities, and to the offerings ancient Romans made to their Great Mother of Gods. In the US, Mother's Day started about 150 years ago when an Appalachian homemaker organized a day to raise awareness of poor health conditions in her community, a cause she believed would be best advocated by mothers (http://mothers-day.123holiday.net/). Now the modern Mother's Day is celebrated on many parts of the world, most commonly in March, April or May. Today, Mother's Day is a day honoring mothers, and is the day when you acknowledge your mothers contribution in your life and pay a tribute to her, often with flowers and gifts. And speaking of showering Mom with gifts... :)
