My name is Janet O’Leary, HR/Operations Assistant for Fairytale Brownies. I have been employed here since 2002 and I am so happy to be sharing Janet’s Journal with you! 

I have many responsibilities in my role in HR with the biggest being the recruiting & hiring of seasonal team members. I enjoy helping people and love to talk, so I think I have the perfect job!

Whenever I travel, I always pack my bag filled with Fairytale Brownies and I also never let an act of kindness go unnoticed. On a recent trip to Kauai, after a very long day of travel, lay-overs, lack of sleep, and hunger pangs, I finally arrived at my destination! However; I arrived 4 hours prior to check-in. Ok, I'm the one who usually plans the surprise parties around here so when I was called into a mandatory late afternoon meeting, my notebook and pen in hand, I was shocked to be greeted by my co-workers yelling, "SURPRISE"! Ok, so I'm a baseball fan! No secret there! Arizona Diamondbacks are my team but I first fell in love with the game as a child growing up outside of Pittsburgh in a small town in Ohio. I grew up a Pirates fan but moved to Arizona and the Dbacks soon became my new favorite team. It's always bittersweet when my two favorite baseball teams play each. At Fairytale Brownies, we hold monthly All Staff Meetings the last Wednesday of each month. This is an opportunity to come together as a team and share information. Many of our meetings include team building exercises that are very valuable in uniting our teams and developing strengths. We also invite guest speakers throughout the year for continuing education and awareness.

The 2012 holiday season has started for Fairytale Brownies! Human Resources will recruit and hire seasonal team members for Baking, Shipping, Customer Service, and Retail.  This week kicked off the official Hiring Time-Line. Between now and the end of November, we will hire approximately 120 seasonal team members!

Like millions of others, I invited friends over for the 4th of July holiday for a swim party & cookout. We had your typical comfort foods that are very Americana which included hot dogs, barbeque chicken, and every side dish you could imagine. When it came to dessert, I didn't have to think too hard as my house is always filled with Belgian Chocolate Brownies!

It's official. . . summer is here! June 20th kicked off the summer season. Many of you are very familiar with the Dog Days of Summer; it usually begins in most states in July when the weather is the hottest and muggiest. In the state of Arizona, the monsoon season officially started on June 15th, so we are well into the "Dog Days of Summer" here! Drink lots of water, stay cool, and wear your sunscreen! Great advice for certain but I say, "where's the ice cream?"
