This year we are continuing to celebrate our 20 year anniversary of delivering the very best in personal and corporate food gifts featuring gourmet Belgian chocolate brownies. Each month Eileen and I have been sharing stories and memories of the past 20 years. I thought for this post that I would share a story about our longest employed team member, Kim Silva. Kim has been with Fairytale Brownies for over 18 years and she has been a key part of our success. She came to us in 1994 right out of college at Arizona State University. Kim was originally hired on a part time basis to help us run the farmers' markets that we were doing at the time. Fairytale Brownies was originally conceived as a wholesale business, but we decided to participate in street fairs and farmers' markets to help with our sales. We quickly found out that customers wanted us to ship brownie gifts for them to friends and relatives all over the country. This is how we ended up in the business of selling mail order brownies.
As sales grew, we switched Kim to full-time status. In addition to running the markets, Kim also became our first shipping manager. At the time our shipping department consisted of a 6 ft. table set up in the kitchen! She also took orders over the phone, worked our retail counter, and helped out wherever and whenever needed. As a small startup business everyone wears many hats and Kim has continued to do just that for these many years.
As the company grew, so did Kim's skills. Over the years she has had extensive training including human resources, leadership, team building, negotiation, mediation, mail-order operations, food science, food safety, and many other areas. Eventually Kim was promoted to Operations Team Leader. In this position Kim overseas human resources as well as our Baking, Shipping, and Customer Service Teams. Recently we added cookie delivery to our offerings, and Kim was a big help in developing this new product line. Eileen and I are so proud of all that Kim has accomplished during her career at Fairytale Brownies and we are so grateful for her many years of loyal and dedicated service!!
Here are a few pictures from over the past 18 years showing Kim hard at work!
