Bake Sally’s gourmet cookies between brownie deliveries

Sally McKenney, a writer and photographer from Baltimore, has developed quite a following for her excellent food blog Sally’s Baking Addiction. It’s a great stop for gourmet cookie and dessert recipes to fill the gap between brownie deliveries from Fairytale Brownies.

Sally’s blog recently caught the attention of NPR, which published her recipe for Salted Caramel Dark Chocolate Cookies. Sally’s gourmet cookies are sprinkled with sea salt and stuffed with caramel. Last year, the recipe won a Nestle Toll House contest—and the accompanying $5,000 grand prize!

So, how does one go about stuffing caramel into a gourmet cookie? As Sally's told to NPR, “The trick to stuffing the caramel candy inside is to make sure the dough completely envelops it. Otherwise you'll have a leaking caramel mess on your cookie sheets!”

Yeah, we’re guessing that’s not as easy as it sounds.

If you’re in the mood for a sweet combination of chocolate and caramel but you’re not ready to follow Sally into the kitchen, it’s...

Belgian chocolate brownie gifts for March Madness

March Madness is upon us! In honor of one of our favorite sporting events, we thought it’d be fun to introduce you to some of college basketball’s tastiest mascots. Alas, we scoured the Internet and came up a little shy. belgian chocolate brownie gift

There’s the UC Santa Cruz Banana Slugs. The slugs probably aren’t tasty, but we like bananas. There’s the Penn Quakers. Again, we wouldn’t eat a Quaker, but we do enjoy oatmeal. And there’s the Louisiana Lafayette Ragin' Cajuns, who could probably cook up a mean plate of jambalaya.

Fudgy chocolate brownies or pie? You decide

Excuse us for getting a little nerdy here, but today is Pi Day. Get it? It’s March 14th. That’s 3/14. And the numeric version of pi is 3.14159 … You get the idea. fudgy chocolate brownies

At Fairytale Brownies, we don’t do pie. We do fudgy chocolate brownies and gourmet cookies. And they are delicious. But, hey, we know there’s room for pie too, especially on Pi Day.

In a 2012 survey of 14,000 Americans, NPR found that our nation’s most popular pie is good old fashioned apple pie. That’s probably not surprising if you’re familiar with the saying, “It’s as American as apple pie.”

Seventeen percent of respondents listed apple as their favorite. Surprisingly, strawberry rhubarb came in second at 16 percent. Apple and strawberry rhubarb were followed in order by pumpkin (14 percent), cherry (11 percent), and blueberry (8 percent). Popular also-rans included pecan, peach, and key lime.

We don’t have beef with pie, whether it’s an American standard like apple pie or something a little strange like strawberry rhubarb.

But...
