Send some fudge brownie love to those you love on Grandparents Day

"Grandparents are a delightful blend of laughter, caring deeds, wonderful stories, and love." - Author Unknown

fudge brownies, grandparents dayIf you're lucky enough to live near your grandparents, let them know how special they are with a visit on Sunday, Grandparents Day. Depending on how active the grandparents are, your day could be as strenuous as listening to music on the living room couch, or playing football in the park.

Even if you don't live close to your grandparents, let them know you're thinking of them by sending a gourmet gift from Fairytale Brownies. What a treat it would be to receive a delicious batch of fudge brownies or a cookie gift from a loved one. Usually it's the Grandma that bakes the dessert!

I'm not a grandparent yet, but many friends and most of my siblings have been granted that honor. I've seen the love they have for their children and it doesn't compare to the love they have for the grandchildren. It's like someone sprinkled fairy dust on them and their "happy place" IS their...

How cookie gifts make or break football seasons

cookie giftWhen it comes to college football, a cookie gift can make or break your season. No, really!

In the case of the University of Southern California, a cookie can giveth. And, in the case of the University of South Carolina, a cookie can almost taketh away.

Last December, we told you about Southern Cal’s winning streak that coincided with interim head coach Ed Orgeron’s decision to reinstate dessert at team meals. As the New York Times put it, "His reasoning: If you give a lineman a cookie, he’ll want to block for you.”

And just last month, cookie gifts crept into college football again.

According to the Associated Press, South Carolina just reported seven NCAA rules infractions committed by its football team. One violation related to “impermissible iced decorations on a cookie cake” given to high school recruits.

We’ll admit that we have no idea what that means. But it sure sounds delicious!

Fortunately for South Carolina coach Steve Spurrier, it doesn’t look like the decision to order cookies will...

Cookie gift businesses grow out of recession

cookie giftsOur nation’s recent economic challenges proved to be a fertile time for entrepreneurs. We recently read about a pair of growing cookie gift businesses that got their start during the recession.

The stories of Carolyn's Cookie Co. and Kitchen Vixen Cookie Shop warmed our hearts. After all, we started in much the same way. We just wanted to ship brownies and cookie gifts to dessert lovers like us.

According to The Californian of Salinas, California, Carolyn Walker was inspired to transform her mother’s cookie recipes into a business after reading Seth Godin’s book Linchpin. Unlike many cookie gift entrepreneurs, Carolyn’s idea involved selling frozen cookie dough balls that can be kept in your freezer until you’re ready to prepare them.

Meanwhile, the News Miner of Fairbanks, Alaska, introduced us to Kitchen Vixen Cookie Shop owner Jen Krzmarzick. Jen bakes custom cookies, but that’s not all. Her unique angle is that she loves consulting with clients to help make the perfect cookie – by...

Order brownies to celebrate baseball season

order brownies for a baseball gameThis summer, much of the world’s attention has been on soccer and the World Cup. That’s fine by us, but let’s be honest about one thing.

In this country, summertime is all about baseball.

During baseball season, you might bring a gift basket of bite-size Magic Morsels to a celebration of your Little League team’s last game. Or you might order brownies by the half-dozen to sneak into a big league game with the family.

Or, if you’re feeling a bit adventurous, you could bake a gift basket full of baseball-themed treats.

The Gunny Sack blogger Tonia posted a fun recipe for baking cookie cups in the shape of baseball caps. We love the idea of letting the kids decorate the cookie cups in their team colors after they emerge from the oven.

Tonia explained the inspiration behind the cookies on her blog.

“The last time that I made cookie cups, a few of them overflowed in the mini muffin tin. When I popped them out once they were cool, I noticed that the when they were upside down, they looked like baseball...

Show your love with custom food gifts

custom food gift cookiesYou’ve heard the old adage that the path to a man’s heart is through his stomach. A couple of teenaged boys turned that idea on its head by creating custom food gifts to show their prom dates that that they care.

The Watertown Daily News of New York reported this summer that two local teens asked out their prom dates with custom-made desserts. And they went a bit further than ordering cookies or bite-size Magic Morsels in our heartfelt Thinking of You band.

William Serota formed cookie dough into the shape of the characters: P-R-O-M-?. When the cookies were done baking, he sent his date Carly Sullivan to the kitchen to check on them. Fortunately, she said yes.

Meanwhile, their classmate Jake Turck ordered Chinese food with a special fortune cookie in it. When his date Cassie Birth opened it, a note reading “Will you go to prom with me? – Jake” fell out. Again, she said yes.

Yes, prom season is behind us. But these heart-warming stories reminded us of the power of custom food gifts to show your...
