Kim Celebrates 20 Fairytale Years!

Twenty years at one job is almost unheard of today unless you happen to land a Fairytale job! Kim Silva, Operations Team Leader at Fairytale Brownies recently celebrated her 20th year of service with Fairytale Brownies! Kim joined Fairytale Brownies in February 1994 working part-time while attending ASU and was hired as the 2nd employee! Kim began her venture selling brownies at local farmer's markets and packing brownies in our shipping department. After graduating from college, Kim decided to remain with the company and learned all aspects of the brownie business; she has worn many hats over the past 20 years and has been instrumental in the success of Fairytale Brownies.

Kim oversees the multi-functional operations of Human Resources, Shipping Fulfillment, Baking Production, and Customer Service Teams.

Congratulations to Kim Silva on 20 Fairytale Years! From, all of your friends at Fairytale Brownies!

Not only is April 1st April Fool’s Day, but it's also International Have Fun at Work Day. I think it may be because people have fun fooling their coworkers that day, but none the less, it is a day dedicated to enjoying work.  We got started a little bit early on this holiday here at Fairytale Brownies. How could we not have fun doing that?!  But as an extra treat for our team, we enjoyed a lunch from the Grilled Cheese Truck, and we did some group painting with the Social Canvas!

Even if your work doesn’t do anything extra special for International Have Fun at Work Day, you can still make it fun. Surprise coworkers with some gourmet brownies from Fairytale Brownies! You will be amazed at how something as small as a brownie can make a big impact. There is just something special about...

Invite Belgian Chocolate Brownies to your next party

I have many hostess friends out there, that just love throwing parties and get togethers. It is just so fun to bring friends and family together, and to remember the important things in life. Of course, we like to show off a bit and get creative as well, especially with food! I know people who have put out quite and impressive spread at their parties, sometimes they cook it themselves, but other times they either don't have the time or prefer to serve something they know will be a hit. Like Belgian Chocolate Brownies, moist cookies, and chewy bars from Fairytale Brownies.

You're guests will not be able to resist our amazingly delicious gourmet treats! We have a lot of different options to choose from! I will layout some of my top suggestions!

Crowd Pleasers- These assortments are large enough to go around and you can choose whether you want just brownies, or an assortment with cookies and bars as well. I suggest the Cookie & Sprite Extravaganza. 48 snack-size Fairytale Sprites are...

Employee Appreciation Day is March 7th!

Bosses have a day to celebrate themselves . . . why not employees too?! Did you know that this Friday, March 7, 2014 is National Employee Appreciation Day? If you're serious about employee recognition, you'll want to pay attention to the rest of this post. Employee recognition is one of the most effective and affordable ways to reduce turnover, curb absenteeism, increase productivity and keep employees engaged with their work (source).

According to the experts, here are a few employee appreciation gift ideas:

  1. Spring for lunch: Breaking bread together is a nice bonding experience for the group. Who wouldn't enjoy taking time off during the workday to do a little team building? Visit a local restaurant, or have lunch catered in. Either way, your employees will love it.
  2. Starbucks: How about a mid-afternoon Starbucks break where everyone gets their favorite drink? An afternoon caffeine jolt is always welcomed and appreciated.
  3. Plan an activity: Fun activities, or team building exercises can...

Fudgy chocolate brownies or pie? You decide

Excuse us for getting a little nerdy here, but today is Pi Day. Get it? It’s March 14th. That’s 3/14. And the numeric version of pi is 3.14159 … You get the idea. fudgy chocolate brownies

At Fairytale Brownies, we don’t do pie. We do fudgy chocolate brownies and gourmet cookies. And they are delicious. But, hey, we know there’s room for pie too, especially on Pi Day.

In a 2012 survey of 14,000 Americans, NPR found that our nation’s most popular pie is good old fashioned apple pie. That’s probably not surprising if you’re familiar with the saying, “It’s as American as apple pie.”

Seventeen percent of respondents listed apple as their favorite. Surprisingly, strawberry rhubarb came in second at 16 percent. Apple and strawberry rhubarb were followed in order by pumpkin (14 percent), cherry (11 percent), and blueberry (8 percent). Popular also-rans included pecan, peach, and key lime.

We don’t have beef with pie, whether it’s an American standard like apple pie or something a little strange like strawberry rhubarb.

But...

A Twenty Year Fairytale with Fairytale Brownies!

I never thought I'd still be here, but twenty years later here I am still working at Fairytale Brownies, and what a Fairytale it's been!

This "Fairytale Journey" (as I call it) began when I answered a want ad in the Arizona State University school paper.  At the time I was hired to sell our delicious gourmet Belgian chocolate brownies at street fairs, festivals and farmer's markets across the Valley.  I also helped out wherever I was needed - in a small entrepreneurial start-up, everyone does everything.  Some days that meant cracking eggs to help Mike (Eileen's husband and our first baker) and Ron (neighborhood friend, baker, band member) in the kitchen, delivering brownies to grocery stores, working our tiny retail shop, taking orders over the phone. . . the list goes on and on!  As the word got out and we attended more events, people began asking if we would ship Fairytale Brownies to family and friends, so we did, and that's how the mail order aspect of the business came to be.  Now...

Potential employers meet ASU engineering students, sample fudge brownies

fudge brownies

For the past couple of years, I have had the pleasure of participating in the Arizona State University Ira A. Fulton Schools of Engineering Career Fair. Twice a year, 2,500 engineering students have the opportunity to meet about 150 future employers from all over the country.

I bring plenty of fudge brownies and gourmet cookies to the fair for the students and visiting corporations. The fair is a great way for the students to learn what types career opportunities are available in either a full-time position or in paid or unpaid internships.

From Fairytale Brownies' viewpoint, the fair is an opportunity to be a part of the community and show attending corporations our gourmet brownie gifts and custom options.

We so enjoy collaborating with the folks at ASU School of Engineering. With each semester, our partnership strengthens and the business grows. Here's to a bright future with ASU!
