Ohio’s Elyria City School District recently found itself in hot water with the federal government. The district’s popular pink cookies – loaded with butter, sugar, vegetable shortening, and sour cream – were deemed unhealthy by new federal guidelines for school cafeterias.
As a result, Elyria’s best cookie was banned from the district’s 16 schools. And, as is so often the case, demand only grew once the cookies were banned. It didn’t hurt that national media outlets, including Fox News and newspapers nationwide, ran with the story.
According to the Chronicle-Telegram of Lorain County, Ohio, the school district received over 100 calls and emails from across North America requesting the pink cookies by mail.
