Even those watching their weight can enjoy an occasional Fairytale Brownies treat

January is the month when people set new goals or reaffirm old ones. It's the month when nearly EVERYONE vows to eat healthier and lose weight. I am one of those people.

I have always been on the fluffier side of physically fit. I can say I was happy with my weight about five times in my life - three of those times were just before I became pregnant for each of my boys (obviously my husband appreciated my weight at those times as well!). I love food. I love preparing it, eating it, serving it and giving it. Maybe it's my Italian upbringing... The reason doesn't matter. My love is a fact.

So here I am, working at a company that bakes the most delicious gourmet brownies, chewy cookies and buttery bars I've ever eaten. How to I keep from weighing several hundred pounds? I eat our products in small doses so I don't crave them every day. There are others who work at Fairytale who can eat a whole fudge brownie every day and not gain any weight. I'm not one of them.

I was in Las Vegas last week for a convention. We handed out samples of our products to other company reps so they can recommend us to their clients. One morning, a buff gentleman with arms the size of cannons approached our booth and eyed our fudge brownies. I asked him if he would like to sample a Cream Cheese brownie, but he wrinkled up his nose and said, "I'd rather eat an apple."

I wasn't surprised by his response because his body and body language shouted, "I only eat specific food to fuel this lean, mean machine."

However, I was surprised that he was so angry about his "fruit" choice for a treat. I thought I would lighten up the conversation and said, "Our brownies are baked with natural ingredients. We use imported Belgian dark chocolate... so they are high in antioxidants!"

Buff man rolled his eyes and walked away.

Every now and then, someone will ask me why our brownies aren't low fat or how can we bake such decadence when there are so many obese people in the world. I don't have an answer that will satisfy them. We are talking about dessert - a sweet treat that concludes a meal.

Maybe this is just the fluffy person talking here, but this is what I know: Fudge brownies are an indulgence. They are not low fat; they are not a health food. Fairytale Brownies are free from preservatives and baked with the finest ingredients available. Our brownies, cookies and bars are an occasional treat for people who love chocolate and dessert.

If you prefer an apple, go for it. (I like apples, too. Sometimes I dip mine in caramel sauce!)
