Banned from Elyria’s cookie craze? Order cookies by mail from us

chocolate cookies by mailOhio’s Elyria City School District recently found itself in hot water with the federal government. The district’s popular pink cookies – loaded with butter, sugar, vegetable shortening, and sour cream – were deemed unhealthy by new federal guidelines for school cafeterias.

As a result, Elyria’s best cookie was banned from the district’s 16 schools. And, as is so often the case, demand only grew once the cookies were banned. It didn’t hurt that national media outlets, including Fox News and newspapers nationwide, ran with the story.

According to the Chronicle-Telegram of Lorain County, Ohio, the school district received over 100 calls and emails from across North America requesting the pink cookies by mail.

If you can’t get a hold of Elyria’s banned pink cookies, we’ve got you covered. With Fairytale Brownies, you can order cookies by mail in a variety of flavors.

Double Chocolate is one of our best cookie flavors. They certainly go over well in the Phoenix home of Fairytale Brownies regular...

Give out Belgian Chocolate Brownies for Sweetest Day.

I was born in California and grew up in Phoenix, Arizona, so when someone mentioned Sweetest Day to me I asked, “What is that?” I never celebrated it growing up, but my Midwestern boyfriend knows all about it. Turns out, it is a holiday mainly celebrated in the Midwest and Northeastern United States. Wait! Another holiday focused around sweets? I can get behind that! (Any excuse to eat Belgian Chocolate Brownies!)  I decided to do a little research on the history of this day.

Herbert Birch Kingston, a candy maker and philanthropist started Sweetest Day to bring happiness to orphans, shut-ins and other underprivileged children. Some of the biggest movie stars of the day, including Theda Bara and Ann Pennington, distributed the candy. Kingston wanted to show that these children had not been forgotten.

Today, it is celebrated among family and friends. So, I have to ask. Is this like another Valentine’s Day? Apparently hearts, reds and pinks are still related to this day, and Hallmark has...

Pumpkin Dip is especially tasty with Fairytale Brownies, Cookies, Bars

open house, gourmet brownies, pumpkin

I've been gathering recipes for a variety of dessert dips and recently made this WHIPPED PUMPKIN DIP to serve with our Fairytale Brownies, Cookies and Bars at next week's After Hours Open House.

It's extremely easy to make, and quite tasty. I brought a batch of dip with a variety of gourmet brownies cut into smaller pieces to a party. During the evening, I noticed someone dipping raw vegetables into the pumpkin mixture. She said she was just using the carrot sticks as a serving utensil to eat the dip by itself.

If you like pumpkin and whipped cream, you might do the same thing.

WHIPPED PUMPKIN DIP

Found on Pinterest from Angela G., via The Mighty Mrs.
1 (8 oz.) container of whipped topping

1 (15 oz.) can pumpkin

1 (1.34 oz.) package instant vanilla pudding

A pinch cinnamon, nutmeg, ginger and allspice (I used pumpkin pie spice and cinnamon to taste)

Mix together pumpkin, vanilla pudding (just the powder) and spices. Fold in whipped cream.

Serve with gourmet brownies, cookies and bars cut into...

New Halloween Pumpkin Spice Fudge Brownies!

As a graphic designer, it is important to remember that the designs you are creating serve a function, and although we are creatives, we must design for the brand or audience and not ourselves. We have to put personal styles and preferences aside and consider who and what we are designing for.  Luckily for me, the company I work for, Fairytale Brownies, has a wonderful and whimsical brand, that I love designing for.

I share this because I recently designed a new label for Halloween that I really enjoyed, and I am very happy with the end result. This Halloween, we have new Halloween themed labels for our new Pumpkin Spice Brownies!

These fudge brownies are my new favorite! Sweet pumpkin puree blends with cream cheese, cinnamon, nutmeg, allspice and ginger to create a fanciful seasonal brownie. These individually wrapped brownies come with an enchanting jack-o-lantern design on the label, perfecting for spreading the spirit of Halloween. Hand them out the co-workers, friends, family, and...

10 amazing facts about brownies!

Sometimes at work with most of my focus on design, development and marketing, I sometimes forget that it's supposed to be a fun and lighthearted thing I'm doing. I mean we are talking about baking brownies, right? That's why I wanted to write about something fun today - so I decided to research fun facts about brownies. I was surprised at some of the facts I found, especially how the brownie was created. Who knew?! Hope you enjoy :)

  1. brownies There are three myths about the creation of brownies. #1, a chef accidentally added melted chocolate to biscuit dough. #2, a cook forgot to add flour to the batter. And #3 and most popular, a housewife did not have baking powder and improvised with this new treat. It was said that she was baking for guests and decided to service these "flattened" cakes to them.
  2. The classic brownie consists of only butter, sugar, chocolate, eggs and flour. Unsweetened chocolate is normally used so more sugar is required to balance the bitterness.
  3. Fudgy brownies have minimum...

Would you pick the biggest brownie or the best brownie?

best brownies in bulkMontreal’s McGill University recently celebrated the start of the fall semester in a BIG way. The public research university welcomed its 37,000 students back to campus by baking the world’s largest fair trade chocolate brownie.

When all was said and done, McGill’s brownie weighed 4,419 pounds!

How does one bake such a large brownie? According to McGill’s faculty newspaper, the chocolate brownie “was cooked in batches in the kitchens of student residences [and] was assembled in a tent on the field over a three-and-a-half hour period.”

Going big is something of a tradition at McGill. In 2013, the school broke the Guinness World Record by making an 11,197-pound fruit salad. Last year, the school invited thousands of people to enjoy a free meal with five tomato-themed courses. Gazpacho. Pizza. You get it.

At Fairytale Brownies, we may not have the biggest brownie. But we believe we have the best brownies!

Our rich fudgy chocolate brownies come in a luxurious assortment of mouthwatering flavors...

Fall in Love with Pumpkin Spice Brownies at Fairytale's Anniversary Open House

Twenty-two years ago, David Kravetz and Eileen Spitalny began their entrepreneurial adventure to bake the best gourmet brownies by co-founding the mail order company Fairytale Brownies. Today, their business not only bakes delicious fudge brownies, the duo has added chewy cookies and buttery blondie bars to the menu... all of which rival their delicious gourmet brownies.

For the past several years we've celebrated Fairytale Brownies' anniversary month with an Open House - sharing new packaging and new products, sampling all of our product flavors, and selling our "reject" brownies for $1. All proceeds from the sale of the rejects go to our national nonprofit partner KaBOOM!
