Cookie gift businesses grow out of recession

cookie giftsOur nation’s recent economic challenges proved to be a fertile time for entrepreneurs. We recently read about a pair of growing cookie gift businesses that got their start during the recession.

The stories of Carolyn's Cookie Co. and Kitchen Vixen Cookie Shop warmed our hearts. After all, we started in much the same way. We just wanted to ship brownies and cookie gifts to dessert lovers like us.

According to The Californian of Salinas, California, Carolyn Walker was inspired to transform her mother’s cookie recipes into a business after reading Seth Godin’s book Linchpin. Unlike many cookie gift entrepreneurs, Carolyn’s idea involved selling frozen cookie dough balls that can be kept in your freezer until you’re ready to prepare them.

Meanwhile, the News Miner of Fairbanks, Alaska, introduced us to Kitchen Vixen Cookie Shop owner Jen Krzmarzick. Jen bakes custom cookies, but that’s not all. Her unique angle is that she loves consulting with clients to help make the perfect cookie – by...

Can a bake-off inspire a 13th gourmet brownie flavor?

12 gourmet browniesAt Fairytale Brownies, we love stories about best brownie contests. It just gets us all fired up about getting back into the test kitchen.

It’s true! It takes both inspiration and perspiration to add to our lineup of 12 gourmet brownie flavors. (You can try all 12 with a Fairytale Dozen.)

The Kansas City Star recently reported on a best brownie contest among culinary students at Johnson County Community College in Overland Park, Kansas. Kansas dessert manufacturer Tippin’s put up $1,000 as a prize for the contest.

This wasn’t your standard brownie bake-off though. All brownies had to meet commercial requirements as though they’d be distributed through grocery stores.

According to the Kansas City Star, the students didn’t let that limitation hold them back. Instead, they created brownies that were “fudge-y, cake-y, dusted with powdered sugar, thickly frosted, sprinkled with nuts, drizzled with caramel, layered with coconut, infused with raspberry jam and topped with whipped cream and cherries.”

Fudgy chocolate brownies are a great student care package

student care package of browniesAlthough I live near Fairytale Brownies headquarters and my alma matre of Arizona State University in Tempe, Ariz., I spend my summers in Seattle. Believe it or not, it’s rather hot back home at this time of year.

Late last month, I was invited to a Sun Devil Send-Off event in Seattle. The event offered recent Seattle area high school graduates the chance to ask local alumni like me about their college experience and make friends with other incoming students before heading south to Arizona.

The Seattle event was one of more than three dozen send-offs from New York City to Shanghai, China.

What a great idea. Right?

After all, college is hard enough on new students. Living away from home. Cooking and cleaning for yourself. Maybe even studying from time to time.

At Fairytale Brownies, we think a great way to help your student warm to college life is with a student care package of fudgy chocolate brownies wrapped in a festive good luck band.

A single well-timed fudgy chocolate brownie can...

Send brownies to your cousins for their special day

I grew up in a large Italian family in small town in northern New York. We seemed to be related to everyone.

cousins day, gourmet brownies, send brownies

The good thing about having a large family was being able to spend time with my cousins. It didn't matter whose house we visited - theirs or ours - there always was someone to hang out with and always something to do.

gourmet brownies, send browniesDid you know that July 24 is Cousin's Day? Now you have an excuse to send brownies to your favorite cousins to let them know you're thinking about them.

July 24 also is National Tequila Day. Because I like tequila, my perfect Cousin's Day would be to hang out with my cousins, eat gourmet brownies and drink tequila.

It would be a magical day. :)

More than just the best brownie, the best cookies and bars too!

Working for Fairytale Brownies, I am often asked what my favorite flavor is. Well hold on, flavor of what: brownies, cookies, or bars? I am surprised at how many people do not realize that besides making the best brownie ever, we also make delicious chewy cookies and soft, buttery blondie bars.

We may be well known for our brownies, but our cookies and bars are just as delicious. Doc O., from Paradise Valley, Arizona is a big fan of our Fairytale Bars. He said, "These bars are fabulously rich and moist. Worth every calorie!"  And Linda from Manteca, CA loves our cookies, "Sinfully good....everyone was all smiles when I served these cookies." So if you haven't tried our cookies and bars, what are you waiting for?!

Visit brownies.com and order cookies and bars to try. For cookies, I recommend the Fairytale Cookie Dozen. This gift comes with 2 each of our six divine flavors, so you can try them all and find your favorite! If you are interested in trying the bars, then go for the Fairytale...

Serve Pecan Blondies in Celebration of National Pecan Pie Day

blondie

Pecan Pie. Yes, it's normally a Thanksgiving Day dessert, but we're thinking about it in July because July 12th is National Pecan Pie Day.

If pecan pie isn't on your list of items to bake in July, you might want to save time and order a food gift of buttery brown sugar bars from Fairytale Brownies.

A Fairytale Brownies Pecan Blondie tastes so much like pecan pie, you might as well top it with vanilla ice cream and dig in. I believe Fairytale's Pecan Blondie recipe is so close to tasting like "real" pecan pie that the only ingredients missing are corn syrup and bourbon...

Hmm. Forget the corn syrup. But you might want to drink the bourbon by the pool while you savor your Pecan Blondie.

Stay Cool Through Dog Days of Summer With Gourmet Brownies

gourmet browniesAccording to the Old Farmer's Almanac, July 3 marks the beginning of the Dog Days of Summer because it coincides with the rising of the Dog Star, Sirius. Although the rising of Sirius doesn't affect the weather, temperatures seem to climb as well as our cravings for frozen treats.

Our Fairytale Brownies buddy, Chuy, isn't concerned about the Dog Star or the weather. But he is serious about gourmet brownies... and buttery bars... and, of course, chewy "chuy" cookies.

Chuy recommends using Fairytale Brownies treats for all of your summer desserts. Store fudge brownies, cookies and bars in the freezer and thaw as needed. (Some customers enjoy our products frozen!) Serve Fairytale Brownies treats by themselves or as a part of a frozen confection like an Ice Cream Sandwich or Ice Cream Sundae. Or create a brownie trifle, a brownie parfait, or a brownie pie.

Keep cool through the Dog Days of Summer with gourmet brownies from Fairytale Brownies.

Celebrate Chocolate Day with Belgian Chocolate Brownies

July 7th is Chocolate Day, and what better way to celebrate it than with some Belgian chocolate brownies from Fairytale Brownies? When you first take a bite of our rich, fudge brownies you will amaze at the decadent flavor. The reason our brownies taste so delicious is because we start with premium ingredients like farm-fresh eggs and real creamery butter. Of course the star ingredient is the chocolate, more specifically, imported Callebaut Belgian dark chocolate!

When you taste Fairytale Brownies the chocolate is sweet and oh so yummy, but did you know the chocolate you taste actually came from a vegetable? Yes, chocolate is produced from the exotic cocoa bean trees which grow in the warm and humid equatorial belt. The trees produce cocoa beans, and the seeds inside are harvested, dried, cleaned, and then roasted. The shell is then removed to produce cocoa nibs, which are then put into grinders so that they can first be ground coarsely, then to a super fine cocoa liquor. Cocoa butter...
