McGill University recently celebrated the start of the fall
semester in a BIG way. The public research university welcomed its
37,000 students back to campus by baking the world’s largest fair
trade chocolate brownie.
When all was said and done,
McGill’s brownie weighed 4,419 pounds!
How does one bake such a large
brownie? According to McGill’s faculty
newspaper, the chocolate
brownie “was cooked in batches in the kitchens of student
residences [and] was assembled in a tent on the field over a
three-and-a-half hour period.”
Going big is something of a
tradition at McGill. In 2013, the school broke the Guinness World
Record by making an 11,197-pound fruit salad. Last year, the school
invited thousands of people to enjoy a free meal with five
tomato-themed courses. Gazpacho. Pizza. You get it.
