Nurses With The Right Stuff Deserve A Sweet Brownie Treat For Nurses Week

I began working for the local newspaper during my sophomore year of college. I was majoring in journalism and was so excited to be near REAL reporters. One night at happy hour, a veteran reporter spent a good 30 minutes complaining about his career choice. When he realized I was still in school, he looked me in the eye and said, "Change your major to nursing. Do it now, and you won't regret it."

Nurses Week, browniesRamblings of a drunken man? Well, yes. But his girlfriend (now wife) was a nurse and loved her job.

Although I didn't follow his advice, I don't know if I would have been a good nurse if I HAD changed majors.

Knowing several nurses in my life, I realize they are successful in their chosen field because they have the right qualities for the job.

Good nurses must be empathetic and compassionate; they must be able to handle stress and accept suffering and death; they must communicate well and pay attention to details; and they must be able to switch gears, shifts or procedures at a moment's notice.

Perfect brownie gifts as seen on TV? Here’s a better choice.

perfect brownie giftYou may remember seeing TV ads for the Perfect Brownie Pan. In fact, if you love perfect brownie gifts as much as we do, you may even have dialed the 800-number right then and there. And, if you did, the Federal Trade Commission has your back.

That’s right. The FTC has a bone to pick with Allstar Marketing Group, the marketer behind Perfect Brownie Pans and other as-seen-on-TV products like the Snuggie and Magic Mesh door covers.

Last month, according to an article in Consumerist, AMG agreed to pay $7.5 million to the FTC and $500,000 to the New York Attorney General’s Office. The agreement came after AMG allegedly duped buyers with buy-one-get-one free offers that included oversized shipping and handling fees.

So, yeah, you might think twice about that particular purchase. However, if you’re still on the lookout for the perfect brownie gift, Fairytale Brownies has you covered.

Just in time for the season, we have a delicious lineup of mouthwatering brownies, cookies, and bars wrapped in...

Fairytale Brownies donates teambuilding efforts to Sojourner Center

Four of us just got back from delivering a van full of Radio Flyer Red Wagons and Tricycles to the children at Sojourner Center in Phoenix.

brownies, wagons

The squeals of delight from the preschoolers when they saw the trikes and wagons lined up on their playground made my heart skip a beat. Those kids were adorable!

One little 4-year-old boy hopped on a trike and took off around the walkway at full speed. Others took their time and checked out the goods before trying them out. (The adults were delighted as well. We brought fudge brownies for them to share.)

I wish all our team members at Fairytale Brownies could have been with us at the center, but I know they had just as much fun building the toys for the children at our teambuilding event the day before.

During the event, eight Fairytale Brownies teams played games to earn parts to build their tricycles and wagons. They burst balloons on their bellies, caught balls in buckets on their heads, lit up tap lights with thrown bean bags, and found color-coded...

Cookies by mail – or in your ice cream

mail order cookiesAt Fairytale Brownies, we’re known best for our gourmet brownies, but you might also know us for our lineup of delicious mail order cookies.

We’re not the only dessert company to engage into the cookie game. Ben & Jerry’s, which has a long history of producing excellent cookie-based ice cream products, recently launched three new flavors of ice cream that are actually wrapped around a core of cookie and cookie butter. Yum!

Here’s the inside scoop (get it?!) on Ben & Jerry’s new cookie core products:

  • Boom Chocolatta! Cookie Core includes mocha and caramel ice creams with chocolate cookies, fudge flakes, and a chocolate cookie core.
  • Peanut Buttah Cookie Core is peanut butter ice cream with crunchy peanut butter sugar bits, peanut butter cookies, and a peanut butter cookie core.
  • Spectacular Speculoos Cookie Core is dark caramel and vanilla ice cream with speculoos cookies and speculoos cookie butter core.

That all sounds delicious to us! That said, we enjoy cookies outside our ice cream as well.

Author cooks up the best brownie themed books

best browniesJoanne Fluke has created a unique literary combination that we just had to share with our readers. Fluke writes mystery novels that contain actual baking recipes throughout the text.

Her latest work is Double Fudge Brownie Murder, which is the 18th installment of a series starring character Hannah Swensen. According to the Fort Worth Star-Telegram, “Even though Hannah’s fabulous brownies can be found at the scene of the crime in the new book, it’s not a poisoning case.”

Whew! That’s certainly a relief to us. We’d hate to see delicious gourmet brownies get a bad rap.

After all, at Fairytale Brownies, we pride ourselves on baking the best brownies in a luxurious assortment of 12 mouthwatering flavors. Our gourmet brownies are the perfect companion to a good book or a great movie.

Speaking of which, for those among us who aren’t big readers, the Hannah Swensen stories are about to jump from the page to the screen. Later this spring, a movie version of the first novel in the series, 2001’s...

Send brownie gifts to Demi Lovato ASAP

We all get cravings from time to time, but few of us have the social media following to start a Twitter avalanche with a simple tweet about brownies.

Earlier this year, singer and actress Demi Lovato shared her desire for brownies with her 27 million Twitter followers. That tweet has since sparked 28,000 favorites, 16,000 retweets, and countless replies. Not bad for something so short and (dare we say) sweet:

We imagine that the voice behind pop hits like Really Don’t Care, Non Lights, and Let It Go has plenty of access to delicious brownie gifts from friends, family, and fans.

But, just in case she doesn’t, here’s an introduction to three of my favorite under-the-radar Fairytale Brownies flavors for anyone wanting to send brownies to Demi:

Fairytale Brownies Makes Monthly Birthday Gifting Easy for Businesses

chocolate brownies, deliver browniesBirthdays are kind of a big deal at Fairytale Brownies. Some of us decorate cubicles with balloons, streamers and confetti, and shower each other with gifts of food and little surprises - all to let our co-workers know they are special. And then we receive a treat from the owners of the company. I have to say - it doesn't matter how old you are, that little bit of appreciation boosts your spirits so much that you feel like you can do anything that day.

We've discovered many businesses celebrating similarly - They're using Fairytale Brownies gifts as the birthday surprise.

Companies will email us a spreadsheet listing the names, birth dates and addresses to send for a particular month. Then we will ship the specific gift requested by the birth dates with the specified gift messages. Some companies choose to deliver brownies to employees, clients or vendors at their home address. Others ship brownies to their work address. Either way, the recipient is sure to receive a fresh box of...

In college football, the best cookies land the best players

For diehard college football fans, the season doesn’t end with the bowl games. It extends into February.caramel pecan cookie gifts

That’s when high school seniors announce which university they’ll play football for in the fall. Recruiting is a big business in college football – and it trickles all the way down into the world of desserts.

ESPN’s Jeremy Crabtree recently reported on a trend of cookie gifts playing a vital role in the wooing of high school football players.

"Kids get fired up by the funniest things," Florida Atlantic University assistant coach Nick Caley told ESPN. "I know we've stepped up our cookie game here at FAU. We now have cookie cakes for the kids that are the thickness of a brownie."

The tactic doesn’t always pay off. We wrote in September about a cookie gift controversy at the University of South Carolina, which reported seven NCAA rules infractions including one related to “impermissible iced decorations on a cookie cake” given to high school recruits.

We think the tactic is more likely to pay...
