If you live in Arizona like us, you know that spring time is citrus time. Maybe that’s why someone decided that March 29 should be National Lemon Chiffon Day.
At Fairytale Brownies, we don’t do lemon chiffon. But we do bake delicious Lemon Blondies. These treats combine a touch of tart and a bite of sweet and are topped with lemony icing for pure enjoyment. You can send Lemon Blondies as a single-flavor gourmet gift or in a mixed gift basket with other bar flavors.
In honor of national lemon chiffon cake day and courtesy of Sunkist, here are a few fun facts about lemons:
- Although lemon cultivation started in the Mediterranean in the first century A.D., 95 percent of all lemons in the U.S. are grown in California and Arizona.
- Lemons are high in vitamin C, which is known to ward off scurvy. As a result, lemons have spread through history thanks to the British navy, California gold miners (namesakes for the San Francisco 49ers), and more.
- You probably won’t ever get scurvy. But you’ll almost certainly get a sore throat. The anti-bacterial elements in a lemon may be your home remedy. Just mix equal parts lemon juice and hot water and gargle.
