Order brownies for Sweetest Day

order browniesAccording to Wikipedia, "Sweetest Day is a holiday celebrated mostly in the Midwestern United States, and specifically, Cleveland, Ohio (where it was created). It is an occasion to remember the sick, aged and orphaned, but also friends, relatives and associates whose helpfulness and kindness we have enjoyed.. in other words, all of the "sweet' people in our lives.

The holiday also is believed to be a promotional holiday created by the candy industry solely to increase the sales of sweets. In 1922, a committee of 12 confectioners calling themselves The Sweetest Day in the Year Committee distributed more than 20,000 boxes of candy to newsboys, orphans, old folks, and the poor in Cleveland.

People with money must have liked the idea enough to give candy and cards to their friends and family members because out of the 12 committee members who planned Cleveland's Sweetest Day, 11 of them directly profited from the sale of greeting cards or candy.

I would say the committee had a good marketing...

Baking Gourmet Brownies, Cookies & Bars for the Holiday Season!

As I walked around the facility today, I noticed all the hustle and bustle happening that is all in preparation for the Holiday season - - which is almost upon us! For the last few months of the year, Fairytale Brownies brings on quite a few seasonal team members which include customer service team members, baking team members and shipping team members. When this influx of personnel happens, it gets me really pumped for the coming season. I also really enjoy watching these folks craft our decadent desserts. Brownie, cookie and bar baking is truly an art! Here are a few pics that were snapped in our baking kitchen and shipping warehouse with some of our regular, full-time team members and some of our seasonal team members too.

Fairytale Brownies & Callebaut Belgian Chocolate

Wow, I can hardly believe it, Fairytale Brownies has just ordered our second container of Callebaut Belgian chocolate to finish baking for the 2013 holiday season . .  That means we're baking a heck of a lot of fudgy brownies for the coming holidays!

The container of dark chocolate liquor that we order directly from Callebaut in Belgium takes about 6 weeks to arrive.  The container is transported by sea, and then has to clear customs once it arrives in the U.S.  We obviously have to allow ourselves enough time for arrival, and also for any glitches that might occur at the port of entry.

Callebaut Belgian chocolate is what makes our Fairytale Brownies so special!  We've always baked with this particular type of chocolate and it has become part of our brand.  We tested numerous different chocolates when the business started, and throughout the years, but nothing compares to Callebaut.  There's something special about Callebaut Belgian chocolate that makes the brownies taste so delectable,...

Send Brownies to help "burn the midnight oil"

The summer months are huge for me as that's when I am tasked with planning and completing improvements to the brownies.com website. Starting in September, website traffic significantly increases because that's when our new Fall/Holiday catalogs drop in-home (if you're not on our mailing list, join here), and our new gift packaging and brownie/bar/cookie flavors become available. The new things happening this year are: New Fairytale Bar flavors: Lemon Blondie and Cinnamon Crumb, New Sparkling Towers, New Fairytale Towers, New Wish Box, New Celebrate The Season Band, and New Happy New Year Band. Click here for more info on our new products.

Aside of the new gifts becoming available, the marketing department brainstorms what kind of improvements we'd like to have for the website, and I have the summer months to manage those programming projects. Depending on the size of the project, I have several people that I work hand-in-hand with to get large functionality changes complete. I work...

Celebrating 8 Years with Fairytale Brownies

On August 24th, I celebrate my 8th year working on the Catalog & Web team at Fairytale Brownies. My position has evolved immensely over the years, and I wear more hats than I ever thought possible. But I've come to learn with a small business, that's what everyone does! Over the years, I've made great friends with some of my co-workers; friends that I can say I'll have for the rest of my life. I've also seen many friendly faces go on to fill other positions -- but these are moves that were best for them.  I've been given so many great opportunities by working here, and it's been a great 8 years. Here's to 8 more!

I pulled together some pics of my time here at Fairytale Brownies. I hope you enjoy my walk down memory lane!

Have coconut cookies delivered for World Coconut Day

coconut walnut cookieIn the United States, September 2 is Labor Day. Around the world, as decreed by the Asian and Pacific Coconut Community (APCC), September 2 is World Coconut Day.

At Fairytale Brownies, we’re OK with doubling down on our holidays. After all, we love coconut! You can have Coconut Walnut Cookies delivered that include toasty walnuts, sweet coconut flakes, and rich chocolate cocoa form a blend of flavors with a velvety smooth finish.

In honor of World Coconut Day and courtesy of the APCC, here are four juicy facts about the coconut:

  • The APCC’s 18 member countries produce over 90% of the world’s coconuts. Members include Fiji, India, Indonesia, Malaysia, Papua New Guinea, Philippines, Samoa, Thailand, and Vietnam.
  • Coconuts are not really nuts. They are drupes. Drupes are fleshy fruits with a central stone that houses the seed. Young coconuts are used as fruits. Mature coconuts are used as seeds.
  • Nobody knows exactly when the first coconut popped out from a palm tree, but specialists say...
