Welcome to Kari's Cube on the Brownie Blog!

kgayesHi there, and welcome to my cube! My name is Kari and I am the Fairytale Brownies Marketing Coordinator, which around here means I do a little bit of everything. My main duties are planning and coordinating marketing efforts, especially catalogs, e-mail specials, Web promotions and our Twitter profile (@ftbrownies).

Most of what I do is behind-the-scenes marketing and merchandising strategy, but I get to be involved in our brownie photo shoots, new product development of gourmet brownie gifts and other fun outings, too. I mostly blog about whatever I'm working on, events I've attended and how I use our fudgy gourmet brownies in my non-work life.

I love what I do here at Fairytale Brownies, and I hope you love reading about it!

Gourmet Brownies on Camera!

It's photo shoot time again at Fairytale Brownies! Here's a look at our gourmet brownies on set for a corporate food gifts catalog that will be in mailboxes this fall. It all starts with getting every element positioned correctly for the shot. This particular picture will be the cover of a business catalog full of great gifts for all those businesses that want to order brownies for their clients during the holidays.

And here is our graphic designer, Erin, and photographer, Rick, checking out the image to see how it fits on our mail order brownie catalog cover.

We're getting close! The caramel brownie has been heated and broken so the caramel inside the fudgy brownie is nice and melty when the piece is pulled away.

Our food stylist, Kim, adding "coffee" to the cup. Fun food styling fact: Real coffee is too oily to photograph well, so you have to fake it. Every stylist has a go-to substitute, but I'll keep Kim's secret. :)

Brownie Photo Shoot Madness!

Next week, we begin a photo shoot for our Fall 2012 Fairytale Brownies catalogs. That means that this week, I am buried in spreadsheets and lists (as you can see), getting all the final details ironed out before packing up the gourmet brownies, cookies and new bars to head over to our photographer's studio for the better part of 3 weeks.

Keep your eyes peeled for some behind the scenes photos (and maybe even video!) of our gourmet brownie photo shoot. It's always interesting, and you never know what new treats and thank you gift packaging you might get a sneak peek at!

A Fairytale Brownies Bakery Photo Shoot!

Yesterday was an exciting day in the Fairytale Brownies kitchen. We had a photographer come in to take some photos of the baking team in action mixing, baking, cutting and wrapping fudgy chocolate brownies. You will see some of the photos she took in our catalogs and on the website in the coming months.

For now, I wanted to share a little behind the scenes teaser. Here's my iPhone camera shot of Lisa at work, shooting two baking team members as they cut some cream cheese and original flavor gourmet brownies.

And here's one of the images she got while she was over there. Pretty cool, huh? We can't wait to share more of them with you in our catalogs this fall!

Flat Stanley visits the Fairytale Bakery!

Over the weekend, my family received a Flat Stanley from our niece in Indianapolis to take around with us for a few days and send back to her second grade class with photos of his adventures, so naturally, I brought him to work with me yesterday. I gave him a tour, and wanted to share.

First, we went into the kitchen, where the bakers were busily baking and wrapping gourmet brownies. He checked out some huge bags of sugar, helped clean the wrapping machine, and dove into a bin of Magic Morsels mini brownie wrappers.

Next, we went into the warehouse to help out the shipping team. Flat Stanley helped pack some Fairytale Sprite Dozen gourmet brownie gifts and sent some boxes off to UPS so that lucky recipients will have brownies and cookies delivered in a few days.

Finally, we visited the Fairytale Bakery retail store, where Flat Stanley helped Marlene ring up some fudgy chocolate brownies for a customer. He had a busy day, and went home very tired!

Take a gourmet cookie break!

peanut butter cookieToday was a day full of meetings and brain-taxing budgeting and calculations in my neck of the Fairytale Brownies bakery. I spent much of the day trying to help my mind keep up with my busy schedule! So this afternoon, I decided I needed to take a break, and headed downstairs to scrounge up a snack (a definite perk of working in a Belgian chocolate brownie and cookie gifts bakery). I managed to find some Peanut Butter cookie "rejects" in our retail store. What's a reject? It's a fudgy chocolate brownie or in this case, a delectable peanut buttery cookie, that is less than perfect. Since we strive to ship only the best brownies and cookies we can possibly make, we hold everything to a very high standard. My Peanut Butter "reject" was delightful, and just the break I needed. You tell me, would you eat this cookie, even though it isn't quite the right size? I bet you would. :)

Let KaBOOM! help open up a play space near you!

NOT a public playground

I know the topic of our blog is mail order brownie gifts and cookies delivered, but I couldn't help but share this image and blog post from our friends at KaBOOM! As you probably know, Fairytale Brownies has been a big supporter of KaBOOM! for over 10 years now, and we helped fund and build a playground here in Tempe, AZ last year.

The sad thing about school playgrounds is that many are never open to the public. There is one in my neighborhood just on the other side of the fence from a public playground, but many communities aren't that fortunate. A lot of the time, the school playground is the only one in a town. If this is the case in your community, please check out KaBOOM!'s Joint Use Toolkit to help open up your school playground to the community.

Coming Attractions!

Our fudge brownie bakers have been busy in the kitchen testing our "secret" new product for Fall 2012, and we're getting very close, so I wanted to give a sneak peek at what's coming soon to a mail order brownie gift box near you! Here are two samples on my desk as I type of the next new treats from Fairytale Brownies. These delicious little guys (and two other sweet flavors) will be joining our gourmet brownies and cookies beginning this September. Can you guess what they are?

Baking the world's best brownies!

I spent some time playing with our camera in the Fairytale Brownies kitchen this week, and got a few good shots of our baking team busily handcrafting gourmet brownies and cookies. I thought I would share with you all how our mail order brownies are made before they get packed into boxes and the brownies and cookies are delivered to your door!

Here is some Belgian chocolate brownie batter being carefully weighed as it is poured onto a baking sheet.

Giving up chocolate? I have a solution!

Easter Cookie & Sprite ComboIt's hard to believe the Lenten season is here already, and I know many of you who celebrate Easter have given up various "vices" for 40 days. It seems some of the most common of these vices is sweets, chocolate or dessert, all of which eliminate our chewy cookies and fudgy chocolate brownies from a person's diet. Now, I would never choose to give up things like chocolate or gourmet chocolate brownies for many reasons. A big reason is that part of my job is quality control tasting, which I can't just stop doing for 40 days. Another, bigger, reason is that I'm not sure I can live without the occasional dessert. :)

But for those of you who have more willpower than I, here's a solution for giving yourself the perfect fudge brownie treat to break your fast come Easter morning. Did you know that you can order our mail order brownies now and have them ship later? It's easy, just place your order, choose for them to arrive by Easter at checkout and don't think about them again until...

Happy Brownie Gift Recipients!

One of my favorite parts of my job here at Fairytale Brownies is talking to customers and those who have received a brownie or cookie delivery through our Twitter account, @ftbrownies. I get to interact with lots of fans of our mail order brownies and cookies. We get tons of tweets and pictures about gourmet brownie gifts around the winter holidays, but not as many the rest of the year. So, I get extra excited when I do hear from brownie gift recipients at other times of the year. Just this morning, I received this great picture and comment that I wanted to share.

@JinxMcGillicudd: Got a fab gift. Shoutout to Fairytale Brownies for deliciousness and charming presentation.

Thanks to everyone who talks to me on Twitter, you really brighten my days!
