Custom cutters for creative cookie gifts

Some people are quite content with circular cookies. We can’t recall ever receiving a complaint about the roundness of the treats in our cookie baskets.

However, for some brave souls, circles are a bit square. Think about it. When you’re offering cookie gifts to your friends and loved ones, you want to personalize them a bit.

That’s why we loved The Daily Meal’s recent slideshow of 10 creative sets of cookie cutters.

They’ve compiled quite a list, from three-dimensional dinosaurs to pugs and hedgehogs and from moustaches to ninjas and zombies. Heck, they even found a set of Game of Thrones sigil cookie cutters. (For the record, I’m with House Targaryen.)

As they wrote in the intro, “You could go with boring old Christmas trees and gingerbread men shapes, sure. Or, you could kick it up several notches with some awesome and creative themed cutters! Seriously, let’s separate your cookies from the pack of Pinterest fails and boring shapes with some inventive and hilarious cookie cutters.”

It seems you have two choices when delivering cookie gifts. You can make your own cookies and add some pizzazz with creative cookie cutters like these. Or, if you want to send some circular sweetness, order cookie baskets from us.

Either way, the recipient is bound to be impressed.

Happy cookie cutting!

Show your love with custom food gifts

custom food gift cookiesYou’ve heard the old adage that the path to a man’s heart is through his stomach. A couple of teenaged boys turned that idea on its head by creating custom food gifts to show their prom dates that that they care.

The Watertown Daily News of New York reported this summer that two local teens asked out their prom dates with custom-made desserts. And they went a bit further than ordering cookies or bite-size Magic Morsels in our heartfelt Thinking of You band.

William Serota formed cookie dough into the shape of the characters: P-R-O-M-?. When the cookies were done baking, he sent his date Carly Sullivan to the kitchen to check on them. Fortunately, she said yes.

Meanwhile, their classmate Jake Turck ordered Chinese food with a special fortune cookie in it. When his date Cassie Birth opened it, a note reading “Will you go to prom with me? – Jake” fell out. Again, she said yes.

Yes, prom season is behind us. But these heart-warming stories reminded us of the power of custom food gifts to show your...

Order brownies to celebrate baseball season

order brownies for a baseball gameThis summer, much of the world’s attention has been on soccer and the World Cup. That’s fine by us, but let’s be honest about one thing.

In this country, summertime is all about baseball.

During baseball season, you might bring a gift basket of bite-size Magic Morsels to a celebration of your Little League team’s last game. Or you might order brownies by the half-dozen to sneak into a big league game with the family.

Or, if you’re feeling a bit adventurous, you could bake a gift basket full of baseball-themed treats.

The Gunny Sack blogger Tonia posted a fun recipe for baking cookie cups in the shape of baseball caps. We love the idea of letting the kids decorate the cookie cups in their team colors after they emerge from the oven.

Tonia explained the inspiration behind the cookies on her blog.

“The last time that I made cookie cups, a few of them overflowed in the mini muffin tin. When I popped them out once they were cool, I noticed that the when they were upside down, they looked like baseball...

Fudge brownie gifts that double as architectural marvels

North Country Public Radio in northern New York recently reported on an interesting trend. Cookie architects like Rebecca Weld of Potsdam, N.Y., are constructing miniature buildings out of cookies and then posting the photos online.

fudge brownie gifts in a towerYou can see one of Rebecca’s creations hereHow fun is that?!

At Fairytale Brownies, we’re big fans of stacking sweets. Have you seen our collection of fudge brownie gift towers? Nestled inside these splendid pillars are fudge brownies, gourmet cookies, and buttery bars that are revealed one layer of the tower at a time.

Our top-selling stack of sweets is our Regal Tower, which includes 30 fudge brownies in three different sizes, eight gourmet cookies, and three buttery bars. No wonder it weighs in at over six pounds!

Here’s what Ginger from Atlanta had to say about the Regal Tower: “The variety gave us an opportunity to try new products and to sample some new flavors and we've loved them all so far. I love the packaging - it was in the shipping box as 4...

Order brownies and cookies in bulk to save

How much would you pay for a shot glass-shaped cookie filled with milk – no dunking required?

order brownies onlineWell, according to Grub Street, a New Yorker recently bought eight of celebrity chef Dominique Ansel's cookie shots at an auction for $6,500. That’s $812.50 per cookie shot!

If that seems reasonable, then boy do we have a deal for you!

When you forgo the packaging to order brownies in bulk, you get them for $31.95 per dozen. That’s just $2.66 per brownie. Not bad, huh?

If cookies are more to your liking, you can order cookies in bulk for just $35.95 per two dozen, or $1.50 per cookie. Of course, these cookies won’t fold into a cylinder and hold milk. But that seems a small price to pay for such a killer deal.

Now, it’s important to note that the price of Ansel’s cookie shots benefited City Harvest, a nonprofit that collects food to feed the underprivileged of New York. Ansel shared his excitement over the fundraising windfall by tweeting: “8 cookie shots gets $6.5K for City Harvest! It's just 24cents...

Celebrate with chocolate chip cookie baskets and brownie gifts

The first line of the Wikipedia entry for chocolate chips keeps it awfully simple. “Chocolate chips,” the entry states, “are small chunks of chocolate.” chocolate chip brownie gift

Yup. That about sums it up. And that’s fine by us, because we don’t need much more reason to celebrate chocolate—especially on May 15 (aka National Chocolate Chip Day).

Chocolate chips have myriad uses from pancakes to hot chocolate and ice cream to trail mix. Of course, our favorite uses for chocolate chips are in our Chocolate Chip Brownie gifts and Toffee Chocolate Chip Cookie baskets.

Did you ever consider the many types of chips spawned by Ruth Graves Wakefield’s 1937 invention?

According to Wikipedia, Ruth’s semisweet chocolate chips eventually evolved to include bittersweet chocolate chips, peanut butter chips, butterscotch chips, mint chocolate chips, white chocolate chips, dark chocolate chips, milk chocolate chips, and white and dark swirled chocolate chips.

Whew!

Like that original Wikipedia entry, we like to keep it simple at...

Have brownies delivered to a galaxy far far away on Star Wars Day

Geeks like me will celebrate this Sunday. It’s May the fourth. As in, may the fourth be with you. It’s Star Wars Day. Get it?! raspberry brownies delivered

Unfortunately, for Luke Skywalker and the gang, they didn’t have brownies delivered a long time ago in a galaxy far far away.

Wookiepedia has 139 pages dedicated to individual desserts from the Star Wars universe. (That’s 139 pages out of a total of 110,130 pages on other things like species, battles, and star systems!)

Instead of having brownies delivered, Luke may have soothed his sweet tooth on Octavian fruit pudding, Corellian fried ice cream, or Bantha breakfast biscuits. Wondering what the heck these are? Well, visit Wookiepedia to find descriptions like this one:

“Zoochberry cobbler was a type of dessert dish containing zoochberries. It was one of the Besalisk cook Dexter Jettster's favorite way of eating zoochberries and was served in Dex's Diner on the planet Coruscant where it cost 2.7 credits or with Denta bean ice cream for an extra 3 credits.”

Zoochberry...

Bake Sally’s gourmet cookies between brownie deliveries

Sally McKenney, a writer and photographer from Baltimore, has developed quite a following for her excellent food blog Sally’s Baking Addiction. It’s a great stop for gourmet cookie and dessert recipes to fill the gap between brownie deliveries from Fairytale Brownies.

Sally’s blog recently caught the attention of NPR, which published her recipe for Salted Caramel Dark Chocolate Cookies. Sally’s gourmet cookies are sprinkled with sea salt and stuffed with caramel. Last year, the recipe won a Nestle Toll House contest—and the accompanying $5,000 grand prize!

So, how does one go about stuffing caramel into a gourmet cookie? As Sally's told to NPR, “The trick to stuffing the caramel candy inside is to make sure the dough completely envelops it. Otherwise you'll have a leaking caramel mess on your cookie sheets!”

Yeah, we’re guessing that’s not as easy as it sounds.

If you’re in the mood for a sweet combination of chocolate and caramel but you’re not ready to follow Sally into the kitchen, it’s...
