Custom cutters for creative cookie gifts

Some people are quite content with circular cookies. We can’t recall ever receiving a complaint about the roundness of the treats in our cookie baskets.

However, for some brave souls, circles are a bit square. Think about it. When you’re offering cookie gifts to your friends and loved ones, you want to personalize them a bit.

That’s why we loved The Daily Meal’s recent slideshow of 10 creative sets of cookie cutters.

They’ve compiled quite a list, from three-dimensional dinosaurs to pugs and hedgehogs and from moustaches to ninjas and zombies. Heck, they even found a set of Game of Thrones sigil cookie cutters. (For the record, I’m with House Targaryen.)

As they wrote in the intro, “You could go with boring old Christmas trees and gingerbread men shapes, sure. Or, you could kick it up several notches with some awesome and creative themed cutters! Seriously, let’s separate your cookies from the pack of Pinterest fails and boring shapes with some inventive and hilarious cookie cutters.”

It seems you have two choices when delivering cookie gifts. You can make your own cookies and add some pizzazz with creative cookie cutters like these. Or, if you want to send some circular sweetness, order cookie baskets from us.

Either way, the recipient is bound to be impressed.

Happy cookie cutting!

Order gourmet brownies to help kids on Universal Children’s Day

large gourmet gift basketEstablished by the United Nations in 1954 and held on November 20, Universal Children’s Day recognizes that “We were all children once. And we all share the desire for the well-being of our children, which has always been and will continue to be the most universally cherished aspiration of humankind.”

At Fairytale Brownies, we definitely share in this desire. That’s why we support KaBOOM!. KaBOOM is a national non-profit dedicated to creating great playspaces for America’s children.

Since 2001, you have helped Fairytale Brownies and our fundraising partners donate more than $100,000 – in addition to gourmet brownies, cookie gifts and time – to support the KaBOOM! goal of building a safe place to play within walking distance of every child in America.

Our commitment is about more than cash. With help from our customers and fundraising partners, Fairytale Brownies was able to fund and build a 3,100-square-foot playground for homeless and transitional students at Children First Academy in...

Gourmet brownies delivered with espresso? Yes please!

espresso nib gourmet brownieNational Espresso Day is November 23. That’s just fine for me. After all, I’m caffeinating right now as I write this post.

Espresso makes a tasty – and eye-opening – morning beverage. It also makes a delicious gourmet brownie. When you have Espresso Nib Sprites or Espresso Nib Brownies delivered to your home or office, they’re filled with a rich espresso flavor and sprinkled with crushed cocoa nibs.

Now, in honor of National Espresso Day and courtesy of Wikipedia, here are three facts about espresso.

  1. The espresso machine was invented in the late 1800s by Italian hotelier Angelo Moriondo. Interestingly, the invention was lightly-regarded in its time. You can learn more about this momentous event in coffee history by reading our blog post about Moriondo.
  2. There are many ways to enjoy espresso, as it’s the base for a variety of drinks including caffè latte, cappuccino, caffè macchiato, cafe mocha, or caffè Americano. And, of course, it’s the base for some of our favorite gourmet brownies.
  3. Trust...

The entrepreneurial dream behind our brownie gifts

order brownies from a small businessFairytale Brownies began like many businesses do. Before we were shipping brownie gifts and cookie baskets around the globe, we were just an entrepreneurial dream.

In our case, childhood friends David Kravetz and Eileen Spitalny launched Fairytale Brownies in the fall of 1992. They baked late at night in a friend’s catering kitchen. With the support of family, friends, and a secret family recipe, they built the successful business that Fairytale Brownies is today.

Our success took hard work, perseverance, and at least a little bit of luck.

That’s why we were struck by the story of Valorie Mitts of Oak Park, Ill. In 2008, Valerie was forced to close the Lil’ Red Wagon Coffee House.

Fortunately, Valerie refused to give up her dream.

According to the Forest Park Patch, she reopened the Lil’ Red Wagon Coffee House in April of this year and business is booming. The coffee shop sells sandwiches, wraps, soups, and muffins, but the focus is on Valerie’s unique cookie creations. She’s...

Send brownies to your boss – or Michael Scott – on Boss’s Day

72 gourmet cookiesOctober 16 is an important day in offices across America. That’s the day we celebrate the men and women who cut the paychecks.

That’s right. October 16 is Boss’s Day, the perfect day to show your appreciation – or just do a little brown-nosing – by sending gourmet brownies or cookie gifts to the guy or gal in the big office down the hall.

While you consider how you’ll recognize Boss’s Day, here are five of our favorite business quotes from one our favorite bosses, Michael Scott of the sitcom The Office:

  • On leadership styles: “Would I rather be feared or loved? Easy. Both. I want people to be afraid of how much they love me.”
  • On office equality: “You may look around and see two groups here: white collar, blue collar. But I don’t see it that way. And do you know why not? Because I’m collar-blind.”
  • On public speaking: “Sometimes I’ll start a sentence and I don’t even know where it’s going. I just hope I find it along the way.”
  • On office humor: “I love inside jokes. I’d love to be a part of one...

Our biggest brownie gift basket is no match for Alabama’s behemoth

Extravagant Delights brownie gift basketDo you have a big brownie appetite? You might order gourmet brownies from Fairytale Brownies in a sizeable Extravagant Delights brownie gift basket.

Or, you might go really big like the folks in Daphne, Ala. Something Sweet Bake Shop just put Daphne on the map – and into the Guinness Book of World Records.

According to a report in Alabama’s Gulf Coast News, Something Sweet recently baked the world’s largest brownie. At its official weigh-in, the bake shop’s brownie tipped the scales at over 234 pounds. The previous record was 220 pounds, 7 ounces.

Not too shabby!

The effort to bake the world’s largest brownie supported a good cause. Slices of the brownie sold for $3 each with proceeds going to the Bay Area Food Bank’s backpack program, which provides take-home food to students on weekends when school cafeterias are closed.

The brownie produced nearly 1,200 slices. That’s over $3,000 for charity. Way to go, Something Sweet!

We’ll admit that we can’t come close to delivering 234 pounds...

Buy brownies for a Browns fan this football season

Our brownie mascotIt’s football season, which is fine by us. At Fairytale Brownies, we love football season – especially when we’ve got gourmet brownies and cookie gifts nearby during the game.

Even our brownie mascot loves football, though you wouldn’t know it to look at him. You’re more likely to think of words like whimsical or delicious when you see him. Not hard-hitting and bone-crushing. But our mascot has family in the National Football League.

When the Cleveland Browns were founded in 1946, its logo included Brownie the Elf. Brownie was a part of team merchandise and even made the cover of the Browns’ first four media guides.

As described by Steve King of ClevelandBrowns.com, Brownie the Elf is “a pixie-type character with big, pointy ears, wearing slip-on boots, a belt with a big buckle and a stocking cap – and a football tucked underneath his right arm.”

Alas, after 20 years with the team, Brownie was ditched by owner Art Modell in the mid-60s. Booooooo!

Fret not for our mascot’s hard-nosed cousin....
