Start Up Advice - Ask For Help!

I think by nature, being a small business we have a "do it yourself" attitude. For me, I wear many hats. My title is web designer, but I do so much more. I also plan, design and implement our email campaigns, design and maintain the content of our website brownies.com, manage and administer Fairytale Brownies social media initiatives, and most recently have taken on the new task of managing the companies PPC (Pay Per Click) and SEO (Search Engine Optimization) initiatives. Wearing many hats is great - I love being diversified (which is a necessary trait for a small company), but sometimes to be successful I need to know when to ask for help. Which is exactly what I did recently when doing initial research for my new PPC and SEO tasks.

I happen to be friends with a fellow named Ron, who I consider to be a PPC and SEO genius. Ron maintains (one of many) the website http://www.blindschalet.com/. Blinds Chalet sells Window Blinds, Window Shades, Shutters, Custom Drapery, and Valances online. I recently spent some time with Ron the phone asking him everything I could think of relative to strategy and implementation. He shared some links to some analytics sites that would be beneficial to me as well as some great tips and best practices to follow. The moral to the story is that the search engine world is extremely competitive in nature, so to "Get Found" you really need to know what you are doing and do it right. Hopefully with Ron's advice, I'll be about to get the word our about our delicious gourmet brownies better and more effectively. Thanks Ron for the great advice!

Great post. As a marketer in the entertainment/media business... I can totally relate to you 'wearing many hats' role. Good for you for reaching out to others - creating a team of experts and supporters will be key to the future success of Fairytale Brownies!! (along with your every growing list of WOM customers too!) Keep up the great work, best of luck in your world on challenges, and be sure to keep posting your success stories to help and inspire the world around you! -Eric
