Today is National Walnut Day! At Fairytale Brownies, we offer three ways to celebrate the walnut. Our Walnut Brownies and Sugar-Free Walnut Morsels are fudgy chocolate brownies piled high with premium grade walnut halves.
Our third choice is my personal favorite. Our Coconut Walnut Cookies are delivered with toasty walnuts, sweet coconut flakes and rich chocolate cocoa forming a blend of flavors with a velvety smooth finish.
Yum! Now, courtesy of the California Walnut Commission, here are four fun facts about walnuts.
- Walnuts are the oldest tree food known to man, dating back to 7000 B.C. The Romans referred to walnuts as Juglans regia or Jupiter’s royal acorn.
- More than 99% of the walnuts in the U.S. are grown in California’s Central Valley. California supplies two-thirds of all the world’s walnuts.
- After a walnut sapling is planted, it takes five to seven years for it to grow into an adult tree suitable for harvesting. I’d say they’re worth the wait!
- Always store walnuts in a cool place. If you’re going to use walnuts right away, put them in the refrigerator. If you’re storing them for a month or longer, put them in the freezer.
Here’s what Celia of Lakeland, Fla., had to say about Coconut Walnut Cookies delivered to a client: “I ordered Coconut Walnut Cookies as a business thank you gift. The recipient called me right away and said they were absolutely divine. And given they were individually wrapped, she could make them last by having one a day IF she could restrain herself. Thank you Fairytale Brownies.”
You’re very welcome, Celia!
