We recently stumbled across a news item that made us hungry for cookie baskets … and a little football!
According to Mark Holmberg of WTVR in Richmond, Va., a long-abandoned cookie factory is being converted into high-end apartments. Just another real estate deal? Hardly!
The cookie factory-turned-apartment complex is right next door to the Washington Redskins' brand new practice facility. Once the renovation is complete, tenants will be treated to freeway access, a gym, a swimming pool, plenty of parking … and an overlook of Redskins training camp for three weeks every summer.
That’s quite a selling point in a football-crazed country. Of course, the cookie factory was already a pretty sweet hunk of real estate. (Sorry, we couldn’t resist.) The historic building opened as the Southern Biscuit Works in 1899. It was most recently known as the FFV Interbake Cookie and Cracker Factory.
Brian McNeal, a member of the partnership of developers transforming the factory into an apartment complex, put it succinctly. “We couldn’t ask for better neighbors,” he told WTVR.
With football season upon us, we remind you that now is an excellent time to stock your cupboards with fudgy chocolate brownies and cookie baskets. Unless, of course, you’re lucky enough to live in a football-friendly cookie factory!
