For those of you who follow my blogs, you may have noticed that I haven't written in a while. That's because I just returned from a 3-month maternity leave, and am in the midst of sorting through 5,000+ emails and reacquainting myself with tons of loose ends. And yes, I did say maternity leave! I just welcomed a beautiful baby girl to my family in July. Her name is MacKenzie, and she is the absolute light of my life (along with my son, Austin!).
I had sort of a bumpy pregnancy because of my "advanced maternal age" (I loved it when the doctors said that... NOT); since when is 40 advanced?! Additionally, I had an early delivery due to the pregnancy complications, but the result could not have been sweeter. I was extremely lucky to have the support of many family and friends during the entire pregnancy and post partum. It's absolutely true what they say about learning who your true friends are during trials and tribulations.
To my great surprise, I had many people who in the past I considered acquaintances lend a hand. Needless to say, these 'acquaintances' definitely turned into great friends! I had friends pop by with dinner for my family, bring gifts of diapers, clothes and other baby items, and offer to babysit any time I needed. As I was the recipient of these lovely and generous gifts, my own thank you gift list grew longer. I was raised to always say thank you for any gesture of kindness towards me. Luckily since I work for a gifting company I knew exactly how I was going to say thank you. Most of my friends and family received small, thank you brownie favors. I just needed a little something to send, but it needed to speak volumes, so a brownie gift favor was perfect :)
Now that I am back to work, I miss MacKenzie terribly. It was a very difficult decision to come back to work, but hey, have to pay off those student loans, right?! I know she's in great hands with the Montessori we picked as a daycare, so that made it a bit easier to come back. Also, I really missed the great folks that I work with here at Fairytale Brownies. It was bittersweet coming back to work, but I did it with my first child, so I know I can do it again.
Now that I'm back, I plan on resuming my weekly posts about brownie goings-on and great gifting ideas. As always, feel free to comment back!
