Custom cutters for creative cookie gifts

Some people are quite content with circular cookies. We can’t recall ever receiving a complaint about the roundness of the treats in our cookie baskets.

However, for some brave souls, circles are a bit square. Think about it. When you’re offering cookie gifts to your friends and loved ones, you want to personalize them a bit.

That’s why we loved The Daily Meal’s recent slideshow of 10 creative sets of cookie cutters.

They’ve compiled quite a list, from three-dimensional dinosaurs to pugs and hedgehogs and from moustaches to ninjas and zombies. Heck, they even found a set of Game of Thrones sigil cookie cutters. (For the record, I’m with House Targaryen.)

As they wrote in the intro, “You could go with boring old Christmas trees and gingerbread men shapes, sure. Or, you could kick it up several notches with some awesome and creative themed cutters! Seriously, let’s separate your cookies from the pack of Pinterest fails and boring shapes with some inventive and hilarious cookie cutters.”

It seems you have two choices when delivering cookie gifts. You can make your own cookies and add some pizzazz with creative cookie cutters like these. Or, if you want to send some circular sweetness, order cookie baskets from us.

Either way, the recipient is bound to be impressed.

Happy cookie cutting!

Pecan brownie gifts that are fit for a King

Martin Luther King, Jr. Day is coming January 19. There’s increased interest in the man behind the holiday this year thanks to the acclaimed new film Selma.pecan brownie gift

Selma dramatizes the protest marches from Selma, Ala., to Montgomery, Ala., that led to the 1965 Voting Rights Act. The movie is a Golden Globe nominee for best motion picture, best actor, and best director.

We did a little research and found that King’s favorite food was pecan pie. That’s not surprising. My family’s from the south too and we love pecan pie.

At Fairytale Brownies, we feature pecans in three of our gourmet cookie and brownie gifts.

Our Pecan Brownie gifts burst with handfuls of fresh, crunchy pecan halves. They’re available as full-size Fairytale Brownies or snack-size Fairytale Sprites.

Topped by a layer of chopped pecans, our Pecan Blondie Bars deliver the perfect blend of moist cake and satisfying crunch.

And our Caramel Pecan Cookies combine organic vanilla extract, buttery caramel, and premium pecans to pair chewy and...

Best brownie? Of course! First brownies? Well, not so fast.

best browniesAt Fairytale Brownies, we’re confident that when you order brownies from us, you’ll receive the best brownies out there.

That said, we’ll readily admit that our brownies weren’t the first brownies out there. After all, we didn’t start baking brownies until 1992.

Mental Floss, a magazine dedicated to random facts and trivia, recently provided some of the back story on the world’s first brownies. Alas, identifying the inventor of any dessert dish can be a challenge. It’s not like patents are involved. So, the magazine offered up three scenarios:

1) An unknown chef was making biscuits and mixed in melted chocolate by accident. Either that or he was baking a cake and ran out of flour. We think the ambiguity alone is enough to discredit this theory.

2) A housewife in Bangor, Maine, was baking a chocolate cake and forgot to add baking powder. That seems a bit more plausible to us, but it doesn’t explain how brownies gained popularity outside her kitchen.

3) Chefs at Chicago’s Palmer House Hotel...

Get gourmet cookies delivered with your coffee – not in your coffee

gourmet cookies deliveredWould you rather have gourmet cookies delivered with your coffee or gourmet cookies delivered in your coffee?

It seems three of the world’s largest coffee retailers are trying to duplicate the success of the Pumpkin Spice Latte by following up that fall tradition with a new winter specialty: cookie-flavored coffee. According to the Boston Globe, there will be four new cookie coffees released by Caribou Coffee, Dunkin’ Donuts, and Starbucks.

Caribou Coffee recently released its Gingersnap Cookie Mocha which includes hints of ginger, allspice, and clove.

Starbucks’ new Chestnut Praline Latte is espresso, steamed milk, and flavors of caramelized chestnuts and spices topped off with whipped cream and spiced praline crumbs. It’s the first new holiday drink from Starbucks in years.

Not to be outdone, Dunkin’ Donuts is releasing two cookie-flavored drinks. Topped with red and green sugar, the Sugar Cookie Latte emulates the taste of frosted cookies. Meanwhile, the Snickerdoodle Cookie Latte mixes...

Ditch the guilt and share a fudgy chocolate brownie gift with a friend

fudgy chocolate brownie giftThe Journal of Consumer Research recently released a study that contains great news for lovers of fudgy chocolate brownies worldwide.

It turns out that when you ask a friend to share a dessert – as opposed to each of you picking your own – it reduces your friend’s guilt by removing the burden of choice. Or, in the words of technology magazine Ars Technica:

“Normally, people do not enjoy being forced to do something. People also do not enjoy the guilt that comes with doing something that is bad for them. Surprisingly, these two wrongs seem to make a right: when people are compelled to engage in vices, they feel better than when they freely choose the vice for themselves.”

In honor of this new research, we’d like to remind you that we have three brownie gifts wrapped in wintry bands inscribed with seasonal messages that are fit for sharing this holiday season. Whether you want to say Happy Holidays, Merry Christmas, or Celebrate the Season, Fairytale Brownies has you covered.

So, share a...

Gourmet brownies with pumpkin for fans of fall

Growing up in the dry desert climate of metro Phoenix, I had little exposure to changing leaves. In fact, my understanding of fall color was pretty much limited to exterior shots of college football stadiums in the Midwest.

Well, late last month I ventured into the forests of northern Arizona to do a little leaf peeping. I loved what I found. Reds. Oranges. Golds. Ah yes. Fall was in the air!

If you’re as excited about fall as I was in that moment, then Fairytale Brownies has you covered with gourmet brownies with a fall theme.

We offer more than two dozen configurations of our gourmet brownies with fall-themed bands. Wrapped in a festive Happy Thanksgiving or golden fall gift band, these Belgian chocolate brownies are a great way to warm your loved one’s hearts and souls on cool autumn evenings.

Plus, for a limited time, we’re offering our seasonal Pumpkin Spice Brownie. Our newest creation combines sweet pumpkin puree with cream cheese, cinnamon, nutmeg, allspice, and ginger to create the...

Is the Dunkin’ Buddy the best cookie gift ever?

It’s rare, but it happens. Some transcendent innovations are just destined to change life as we know it. The wheel. The cotton gin. Sliced bread. You get it.

And, now, we can add the Dunkin’ Buddy to that short list … at least among those who believe that the best cookies are dunked cookies.

Gizmodo summed it up perfectly: “The Dunkin' Buddy is a simple tool that lets you completely submerge a couple of cookies in milk, without soaking your fingers. Using a magnet, it connects a cookie-holding tray to a handle on the outside of the glass, so your hands stay dry while you dunk.”

According to their website, the Dunkin’ Buddy team is still working out the logistics of manufacturing for their patent-pending innovation. That’s too bad, because we think it’d be the perfect holiday pairing with cookie gifts from Fairytale Brownies.

In fact, with Cyber Monday upon us, we could see folks pairing the Dunkin’ Buddy with cookie gifts in Christmas bands or Holiday bands this year.

So, here’s a...

Banned from Elyria’s cookie craze? Order cookies by mail from us

chocolate cookies by mailOhio’s Elyria City School District recently found itself in hot water with the federal government. The district’s popular pink cookies – loaded with butter, sugar, vegetable shortening, and sour cream – were deemed unhealthy by new federal guidelines for school cafeterias.

As a result, Elyria’s best cookie was banned from the district’s 16 schools. And, as is so often the case, demand only grew once the cookies were banned. It didn’t hurt that national media outlets, including Fox News and newspapers nationwide, ran with the story.

According to the Chronicle-Telegram of Lorain County, Ohio, the school district received over 100 calls and emails from across North America requesting the pink cookies by mail.

If you can’t get a hold of Elyria’s banned pink cookies, we’ve got you covered. With Fairytale Brownies, you can order cookies by mail in a variety of flavors.

Double Chocolate is one of our best cookie flavors. They certainly go over well in the Phoenix home of Fairytale Brownies regular...
